again i agree with the other statements, top guy, got time to talk to anyone, and a bloody good driver! Stick to BTCC and he will be great! but i would class him as a 'proffessional driver' as apposed to some random "cup class driver" to be honest Ben...including me!!!!!

theres a difference between racing contact, and crashing into people. Racing contact is, after all, what most punters are there to see... yes they are there for the racing... but you try and tell me that nobody enjoys a bit of carnage now and again.
keep trying, you will be up there with him one day!

Actually I disagree, "punters" at a GT race are race fans and there to watch a race, not a crash, for crashes I suggest you go to Arena Essex and watch the stock cars.Motor racing is a non contact sport. The British Taxi Cab racing mentality is bad for the sport. There is a difference between an accidental touch and deliberately running a person off the track, and those that chose the latter route shouldn't be on the track.
got driven around brands by him recently and he really opened my eyes to the differences between a top level level driver and an average club racer - the biggest difference was his ability to brake much later than me and still get the car turned into the corner for a fast exit.
he seemed a nice chap but i don't really know him although i too was wondering where he'd gone!
i wouldn't dismiss Ben so quickly though, there's some really great racers out there at club level, look at Stewart Linn, he raced in the westfield champs and ginnettas, he also raced in my kit car series once and he's well on his way to a full GT drive. Even at club level you need a degree of time to get on the pace & get the most from the regs, especially if the guys at the front have been there for a few years.

I read read in motorsport news he had fallen out with rpm, steve clark his partner continued for a round or two then with lack of budget then had to retire, not sure if this is true. Paul is great driver and brilliant personality, his style is probably more suited to tintops though! wish him luck.
Just think that I should clarify this one for once and for good . Paul is a great driver , a great personality, and a realy positive influence to have around ANYBODY'S team. Furthermore he did not fall out with Team RPM or i am sure anybody else's team. The reason he stopped driving for Team RPM was purely and simply for commercial reasons as stated by Graham Mundy of RSS. Sorry guys i am sure it is not as exciting as he had a huge row and stormed off in a huff , but it is the truth,

Never stopped Jason Plato (although JP is the reason I stopped watching BTCC)... including me!!!!!

Paul is a great guy, one of the most down to earth racers I have met, and as a journalist covering his early exploits in BTCC and GTs, I can't say his driving standards have ever been questionable. I would imagine Paul would be an asset to any team, not just for the driving but for his friendly, infectious enthusiasm out of the car, which must be great for sponsors and us journos alike. After one of his podiums this year, on his way to collect the trophy, he spotted his gran in the crowd, stopped, turned to her and shouted "see gran, I told you I was good!" Class.
