Evening all, anyone on here ever stripped a dash etc for a retrim? From what I can make out the whole centre consul etc has to come out with it? I've had a look and not really sure where to start? Eventually everything including the rooflining has got to come out so any tips would be greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Get the seats out first, then you can get the centre console out. Its only a few bolts, get the clocks out then right at the end by the windows it is bolted, there is also a self tapper into the bulkhead, self tappers by the gear lever and helmet holder too.

the plan is to hopefully glue alcantara rear of the rollcage and trim it in tight around the lip of the rear screen. Frm what I can make out the cover of the roll over hoop is plumbing pipe insulation which can simply be re trimmed to hide the seam in the alcantara. The front rooflining can be re trimmed and tucked in to the leather side cage covers. I may be adding some additional welds and braces to the original cage to bring it up to, in my opinion, a more substantial passenger cell protection.

If you are gluing roof lining yourself make sure you use high temperature glue. The only stuff I found that was up to the job (after having to re do it 4 times!) was from Woolies - http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/pc-1263-304-heat-res....

Use the wrong glue and it will drop round your ears as soon as the car sits in the sun!

If you are retrimming the back section you will need to take the cant rail covers off - there is a hidden wing nut that you have to get to by taking the rear speakers out and reaching into the hole.

Carefully cut the old headlining off where it goes under the screen sealant and you can get a perfect finish by sticking the new one rolled over the edge and flush to the screen.

Cheers Tanguero for the advice, my brother's already mentioned using decent glue for the headlining as his golf dropped it's headlining on the first sunny day after it's retrim, I'll use that stuff you've mentioned, Cheers.

Most of the interior is stripped now, I was amazed how easily the door cards came off. The last bit that I've got left is the upper dash, any ideas how to pop it out?

Cheers
