Video: Corvette ZR1 Engine Build

Vid shows the ZR1's powerplant being built from scratch

The 638bhp Corvette ZR1 is already looking like it will be one of the fastest cars on the road but here we have a video of what gives it all that shove. Footage has been released showing the car’s LS9 powerplant being assembled from scratch.

The video is sped up somewhat but still shows the amount of effort that goes into prepping one of these engines. If you’re into engines this might just hit the spot. If you’re not into cheesy American rock music then turn the volume down…

looks like a training video, guy in blue coat being shown what to do, with limited bolts he can do up, and it seems he gets that wrong.

nice engine though... but for the size of it, i recon they could safely squeeze more juice!

I think my head would fall off with boredom, just like any production line. i may be mistaken, but you dont get to build the whole engine, you just do your 'bit' then the engines moves to the next chap

Probably not on a line with such a limited production run, they'd be done in one day for the entire lot

I preferred the Megafactories on the Ferrari plant, got that saved on my Sky+ box. Watching the engines being cast, cleaned, ported parts, building it all up etc etc, fantastic. Much better than these sped up with half the jobs already done video's...

Fantastic episode, it really made me appreciate Ferrari's alot more. It made their price seem almost very reasonable to me after watching it

Hardly 'built from scratch'.
The crank, rods, pistons and camshaft were already in the block when the vid began.
Interesting all the same.

Lsx's are quite small actually. Comparable to a decent size Dohc v6.

engine size is 1cm narrower than an RV8 and 4cm taller with the same depth- also only weight 15kg more wet!
