Buying a laptop or similar

I know buying a laptop is a legitimate expense, but is it ok to buy a second-hand laptop from a friend or such? Do you claim it as a capital expense?

What happens with depreciation etc and in the event of it breaking...would it be suspicious to have to buy another one?
