LM Classic Grandstand Passes

First off, before I start a moan, I would like to say that the Le Mans Classic was a fantastic event and I will definitely be back in 2010.
However, I have one gripe. I may have been in the wrong here and so didn't push it, but I was under the impression that the grandstand pass I paid £26 for enabled me access to any grandstand at any time through the weekend? This worked fine on friday and saturday and I passed between the pit grandstand, Leonard and Dunlop no problem, depending on where I was when I fancied watching some track action. However, on sunday I was resolutely told that I had to sit in the grandstand that was printed on my ticket. Problem was that, having booked slightly later, my mate had a different grandstand printed on his and so we ended up sitting on the terracing after being turned away by various officials, even though the stands were half empty.
Anybody got the correct line on this?

My son and I had tickets for Lagache Tribune bought direct online from ACO, face value E8. We had been to Le Classic in 2004 and 2006 and in the same Tribune.
On Saturday Lagache was nearly full at the start of the racing. Access was controlled for most of the event until around 20:00 but when went back at about 22:00 there was no security and anyone could get in to Lagache. This seemd to be the case everywhere in all the pits straight tribunes. and was almost full. We did not try and get into other tribunes.
On Sunday we noticed that security was back but also was rather lax. However, we found a great spot at the patio bar approaching Dunlop Chicane on the inside of the circuit and stayed there all day!

The cost of GS tickets was 30 Euros if booked after mid May or (I think 8 Euros) if booked before. Sounds like you were fleeced by an Agency? There really is little point buying Classic tickets from an Agency, get them direct from the ACO and avoid lining the pockets of a middle man!
Ours were bought last minute (I forgot to order them
) and we got Somer which I thought was pretty good as a later order.
Didn't try any of the others, they confusion may have been that the ACO just described it as a GS supplement without specify individual GS's which I think led to a thought that it would be any GS.

Lagache was tribune 19, next to the ACO stand. I had Lagache seats but have to say the elevated position of the ACO seating looked better from where I was (and I paid through the nose for mine from an agency!).I just got four tickets for the ACO stand 18 smack in the middle of the pit straight. Ordered my 2008 Classic tickets at the 2007 24Hr race with my 2008 24Hr tickets
Weekend Acces 37.00E each
ACO 18 Tribune 3.00E each
Paddock Entre FREE each
Blank (white) parking 15.00E per place
No problem getting in and out of the grandstand though security but about 9.00am Sunday morning the security came around and checked everyones tickets were OK to see if anyone had crept in during the night.
Hotels already booked for the 2009 and 2010 24Hr event and the 2010 Classic as well as the 2009 24Hr race through the ACO

We were parked in the so-called VIP area in Expo for Le Classic. Pretty good, and if you know how, (as we do), easy to get in and out of from anywhere in Le Mans. We would have preferred Parking Blanc and were surprised to find it dedicated to ACO members only. We always book and park there for the 24 Heures.
Two main qustions:
1. Do you think it is worth joining the ACO to get access to tickets etc? If so, does ACO allow members to take guests into the ACO tribune on 24 Heures days? What I'm really asking is that if I go with my son (as usual) do we both need to be ACO members to get into their tribune? Incidentally, I'm not concerned about the cost of ACO membership as I go to France maybe 6/7 times each year.
2. How come you have booked your tickets for 2009 already? There's not even a date on the ACO website! Maybe via the ticket office at the circuit? Should I phone ACO now to make the bookings do you think?

I think that's where my confusion came from by the ACO refering to a Grandstand supplement as opposed to buying a specific GS seat. If I'd known, we'd have done that just as we do for the 24! I'm a bit surprised by the price differential though. I've booked through Just Tickets for years and always got good service, but £26 to €8 is a significant mark up. You get a discount on entry tickets (and GS but not camping I think??) if you are but you can book happily with them even if you aren't.
Bit hit or miss for the 24 due to demand but for the Classic you should be fine....I hate paying agency mark ups!
