Folks,

What's the highest state of engine tune anyone out there has successfully got through SVA? I currently have a 2l Zetec (Mountune fast road spec) and I'm looking at adding a supercharger for a bit more oompf. Has anyone already done this & is it likely to cause problems with the emmissions test?

Cheers.

Two options really.

Use an engine built from a pre 1973 block. This will end with a 'Visual smoke only' emissions test.

Build your engine into the car and take it to an MOT test station and see if it can be tuned down to the emissions figures required for the year of the engine. If not, stick in a standard engine and replace it later.

If your Zetec is from a M registered car or earlier then you won't need a catalyst to pass the emissions test, if later then you will. It will be up to you to prove the age of the engine.

As far as the forced induction is concerned, as long as your fuellng is accurate then there should be no problem. So, it's all down to your ECU and whether or not it is correctly mapped. If it was me I would get an Emerald and have it set up on their rolling road, but good results have been obtained with Megasquirt but a lot more effort will be needed from you

Justin Yates' Aeon GT3 had 420bhp, and it went through the SVA ("only" turbo'd) - however, it did take 4 attempts to pass (kept on failing on emissions)....

Thanks folks, this is great news. smile

I don't mind if it takes multiple attempts to pass, I just wanted some proof it's possible. The block is pre-August '95, so I don't have to fit a cat (but I may need to for emissions anyway). I've already got an Emerald, and they will be doing the mapping.

It looks like this little side project gets the green light then. bouncebouncebounce
