Heat in the cabin

Has anyone found any good ways of reducing heat in the cabin? Aside from the obvious roof removal and turning on air-con options (not that the aircon is particularly good, but still)...
I'm thinking of the heat from the central transmisson column in particular. I've thought about getting the interior retrimmed and putting some kind of heat insulating matting around it - has anyone tried this?
I've also just been told that a major source of heat is the catalytic converter (it gets to 300 degrees plus, glowing red apparently). Have people who've decatted noticed any improvement?

Cats out definatly make it a bit cooler,but i think its just the nature of the beast to be honest,gearstick and handbrake surround always get hot thou I'm thinking of the heat from the central transmisson column in particular. Aircon should be fine - I took mine ('06 Conv) to Sicily a couple of summers ago - and even in 38 degree heat, the aircon on full kept us reasonably cool. Not up to LandRover ice box standards, but not bad.

Its the back of the seat area I find uncomfortable after a long hot drive - non of the airflow gets round there at all. There's a pipe running along the central trim area (by the handbrake) that feeds the air hole at the back of the car. I wonder if you could fashion something to divert some of that air to the back of the seat.
I asked Leven about the different style gear stick with a rubber bush in it, and they don't think you can retro fit it to tuscans and were only aware of it in cerbs. They also didn't believe it made much difference.
Just to be clear - I don't think my car is especially bad, but I'm wedged in it quite tightly (I'm 6'7") and I'd like to be a little more comfortable after a long drive, especially in hot weather or stuck in traffic.
