VXR Driver of the Year

Hey guys,
just found out I got through to the semi-finals of this competition and have a day of go-karting in September on the Daytona track in Manchester.
Any tips for racing as I've only done karting a few times and really would like to give it my best shot. Anybody know the track? I'm planning to head down there before time to get an idea of the karts and the track and I've started doing some fitness work again.
Anybody else enter or get through?

Yup, I made it through too (I wonder how many people have actually progressed to the semi's?).

I'm off to the one in Salisbury, hope I do well. I race karts locally so like to think I might stand a bit of a chance. I've done something like this before, I progressed to the karting phase of the first ever series of "so you want to be a grand prix driver?" so i'd like to think i'm kind of a expert in the matter

If you're serious about it, go there as many times as you can before Sept and practice, practice, practice. See if there are any open races you can enter.

The key to karting is to keep it smooth and maintain momentum. Try to look as far ahead as you can, planning your entry to the next corner as you exit the previous.

I'm going to the manchester semi,I'm rather rapido in a kart as it happens,but will still be having a run down there for some cheeky practice I get the feeling a few locals will have got through so its only fair.

Need to work on my total lack of fitess though in case I get through that stage.....

Good luck guys. I attempted it but suspected I would fail to get through. Controling the minigames on my laptop touchpad was hopeless.
I am doing the Dumlop Race Academy 2008 where I will end up hopefully racing in the Dunlop Sportmaxx cup which is where one of you will be lucky to end up for a season if chosen.

Tips for karting..

Indoor so watch the barriers. Don't go for sideways everywhere stylee it's not fast. definately get down for a practice and be realistic. Find out what the lap record is and try to improve to get somewhere near it.
If you haven't raced before then get your mates down for a works do or something to get an idea about side to side driving and where to find gaps.
Either you are a complete natural which sadly some people are or like me you can get to a high standard but it takes practice and effort.
The main thing is that to 'finish first,first you have to finish'.
Some scholarship entrants I have raced against in the past seemed to have a death wish and didn't care who they took out with them.

I have done 4 scholarships and have made the semi finals everytime so please listen to your instructors they know what they are on about.
I am still learning myself.
