I need to go to a meeting at Schiphol airport in a couple of weeks time, and whilst I usually fly, it occurs to me that I could ride up there (it's only about 200 miles from the tunnel) and enjoy a ride out on the employers' credit card.

Thing is, I'd have to stay overnight. Anyone know of a hotel nearby (or reasonably close en-route) with secure bike parking? What's the crime level like over there? I lost a Gixxer Thou to thieving pikeys in London 2 years ago and I'm not keen to repeat the exercise....

Thanks.

Hello,

Bike parking in Amsterdam and overall in the Netherlands is free in most places. For your concern, in Schiphol, there is plenty of parking for Bikes and it is quite safe as it is dedicated to bikes and in front of the Police station with a roof.

Other areas and hotels have their own parking that is secure and they usually allow you to park near the front door of the hotel so it will always be in sight. I currently sometimes do work here in Amsterdam and have my bike here for the duration. All I suggest is that you have your chain and brake disc lock as this will also help discourage bad intentions.

Safe travel, let me know if you need further help.

Regards,
Andy

Great, thanks Andy, I'll look into this a bit further then.

I don't live far from the tunnel, so even though it will take slightly longer overall than flying, it'll be several thousand times more enjoyable!
