Does anyone know if it is difficult to insure an Elise after a Honda conversion?

I am currently phoning for quotes for my standard S1 and the fact it has a Magnex exhaust seems to be a problem. Is it tricky getting cover with the Honda?

not at all, you must be ringing mainstream insurance companies...big list over on the SELOC techwiki...some people have actually had their insurance come down after a Honda conversion (!?) ..its a recognised conversion with about 3 or 4 insurers...most I think want you to be over 25, with some evidence of driving a performance car will help (training course from Carlimits etc) but other than that, no real difficulty.

Of course if you rang up a mainstream one to try and get a quote they would be confused on the phone once you start talkin about exhausts, let alone changing engines and triple the power etcwink

I could imagine it on my old NU policy I first had that increased premium in bands for mods - like + 10% BHP was +10% in £ too ...so exhaust + filter = £60 ...mmmm " how much increase over std sir ?" "errrrr...300%...its 360bhp now and was 120bhp" ...I could just imagine them chuckling down the phone with the new quote

Per bogie's note, plenty of places offer it, you just have to do the usual ring-a-ring-a-rosies to get a decent quote. One or two quote silly numbers, but generally the quote is under a grand for an NA car on limited miles with a decent postcode, no naughty medallions or big claims.
