My drivers side mirror has suddenly become V loose and floppy (phnerk!). I assumed there would be some sort of bolt connecting it, so took off the door panel to tighten it up and there is'nt one. Got to be straight forward, can't work it out though.

Ok, these are tricky. If you look round the base of the mirror where it goes into the recess of the door you will find a small allen screw which holds the mirror tight. (you may need to move the plastic cover to see it).
The tricky bit is the lack of space to tighten it up. I cut an old allen key down so that the right angle bend was just as the key came out of the screw and the handle was short enough not to catch.
Once you've sussed that it's simple.

My driver's side mirror decided to go all floppy just after I joined the M4 on Wednesday, and then come of completely before I had to chance to get on the hard shoulder! The problem was that the whole assembly had basically unscrewed from the hole in the door, but the thread (not sure if it's on the mirror or the door) seems to be knackered so when it starts to tighten it just comes loose again. I couldn't turn back as I was on my way to see a customer, so I ended up driving round all day with the mirror supported inside a carrier bag which I then shut in the door to keep it in place!
This kept the mirror in place, but didn't do much for my visibility on the motorway (or my streed cred).
Anyhow, I tried to tighten it up that night, but ran in to the problem with the allen key and ended up being unsuccessful. I had to fly out to Seattle on Thursday morning, don't get back 'til Sunday, and then have to drive up to Leamington Spa on the Monday morning, so I have a very small window of opportunity to get it fixed on Sunday.
If I removed the threaded part from the mirror it seemed to do up tight so I think I'll try the trick with the cut down allen key. If that doesn't work, I was thinking about drilling a couple of small holes through the flat sections at the bottom of the metal mirror arm (covered by the plastic cover) and using a couple of self-tappers to hold it in place.
The only other solution I could see would be to glass a new bolt into the door, and that just scares me!
I obviously can't try this until Sunday, but if anyone can see any obvious problems with my proposed approach I'd be grateful to know.

Just purchased my first tvr, an s3 in pretty good nick, no pressing jobs but would like to know if I can change the wing/door mirrors for these from a mk1 mx5?

No chance with a cut-down allen key on mine: the gap between the 'tripod' and the recess in the panel is less than the diameter of the key!
The only way is to tighten the grubscrew at somewhere near the top position, then screw the whole mirror into the door. If, when tight, the mirror is at the wrong angle, then remove, alter the position of the screw, and repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
It's possible too, to fit a thicker packing washer to adjust the angle.
None of this is easy with the mirror wiring in place.
Hint: copper grease on the thread makes it easier to remove and replace.
Has anybody succeeded in fitting different mirrors (MX5, Audi TT etc) to these S3/S4/V8S doors, without glassing-in the recess and starting from scratch?
and does anybody have a source of the awful Citroen tripods?
