Dear All,

thought this may be of interest in the debate about speedcam locators. I have had an RA7000 for about a year. It seemed to have a really good speedcam data base including mobiles, but the warning distance on the mobiles (laser equipped typically) seemed way too short. I did correspond with the company on this but was informed there was a preset for mobiles at 500m. I suspected all this time that I was only getting 250m. Anyway, a mate with the same unit visited allowing side by side comparison. My unit did indeed wait until 250m, ages after my friend's unit had warned him about a location. Armed with this I contacted the company again with no joy.

So I decided to upgrade the NAV and get better warnings for mobiles too. I sold my RA7000 (£100) and invested in top of the range Snooper technology.

Putting the NAV to one side for now, the speedcam warnings seem good but the unit has found NONE of the mobiles round my way that my old RA7000 used to warning me (too-late) about!! Hence I am less confident in the unit for use 'in anger' on my travels.

Now I am concerned that the Snooper data base is not as good as the RA, and Scams are my primary reason for buying any NAV system. Having said that, I am now used to SATNAV and wish to retain that technology.

My question is: Is there a regional variation in location coverage between RA and Snooper mobile scam warnings?

Which is best???

Thanks.

PS I'll say more on the Proline after a lovely 1500 mile jaunt around Scotland in early August.
