A lot of this forum banter is about persons rebuilding cerbs or tryingto find CAT Ds that can be sorted or scrapping ones with chasis and engine issues.

The car is rare and somwhat unique amoungst English Sports cars (as in it was/is very good). Values for the older ones are levelling and proabably only depreciating at 5-10% per year.

Going back over my confused memory of these threads. So i've seen that you can get cerb bodies made for what 4k - chasis for 4k, bit's and bobs, spares upgrades etc..always knocking about. The figures may be wrong but are close(ish)

Anyone wants to guess how much a "new cerbera" would cost to build. Either using the VAG 1.9tdi unit or LS biggrin or even a rebuilt AJP cloud9

I presume the glass would probably be the most difficult thing to get hold of.

What do you reckon? Build one new for £30k?

An interesting one, the key problem would be giving it a non-TVR name as it'd have to be SVA'd as a kitcar... many wouldnt like to drive a kit-car Cerb, even though the reality of it is that it'd probably end up a damn sight better built if it were built by any number of the enthusiasts on here. thumbup

If you could get a chassis data plate, you could swap it to the 'new' chassis. I guess you could then re-register the car.

Lots of time and money, but lets give it say 18 months and see what happens.

nono There isn't actually an SVA category that says 'kit car' - the actual category would be 'amateur build'. There is no concept or check as to how the car came to be presented assuming you built the car yourself for your own use and are not in the business of making cars. There are of course other categories for low volume manufacture, but nothing that actually classifies a car as a commercial 'kit', a ground up build, built from spares or whatever.

On this basis, you can 'amateur build' whatever you want so long as you buy the parts and follow the rules. The only issue in terms of naming would be any copyright issues with the owner of the name. The VOSA folks don't really care what you call it so long as it's not clearly something it's not - like registering a cobra kit as a Rolls Royce. But if you did genuinely ground-up build a Cerbera from a new chassis, body, engine etc., you'd have absolutely no problems calling it an amateur build TVR Cerbera. Now, whether TVR would let you get away with it is a different matter, but there would be no problems with the SVA test and subsequent registration.

I have a 57 plate 'amateur build' TVR...with TVR on the V5.

That was what I meant WB smile I doubt TVR would be very happy with you calling it a TVR, its a little different with your Tuscan challenge car as it was built as a TVR Tuscan Challenge Car to begin with, you just made it perfect by rebuilding it to better than TVR standards and made it more road biased.

I reckon that if someone was to build a Cerb from scratch - they'd have to get imaginative... if it were me, I't be the BCA Cerbera thumbup

If the brief is that you're not going to use 2nd hand parts, you'd be missing *a lot* of bits that would need to be either custom built at significant cost or replaced with something un-Cerb-like. For starters:

- Black box controllers. Sure its just wiring, but not trivial (how would you drop the windows when the door opens?)
- Interior dash, console, instruments, door panels, seats, etc
- pedal assembly
- door & boot hinges (Steve Heath makes a bonnet hinge) and catches
- glass
- steering rack
