Listening to Renee and Renato's track 'Save Your Love' I thought that the lyrics were quite meaningful. Its potential greatness overlooked, I wondered how the gloriously cheesy track might achieve greater acclaim. James Dean Bradfield is the obvious choice accompanied by the ethereal vocals of Swedish songstress Nina Persson.

Another nomination from me is Macy Gray sprinkling her gold dust on Chas and Dave's 'Ain't No Pleasin' You.'

So, over to you folks. What songs would you like to nominate for transformation from cheese to gold by the vocal talents of the great and the good?

Now that's a great post!

Now I'll ruin it.

How about Freddie Mercury singing "Shaddap Your Face"

Gary Jules - Mad World.

Completely transformed that song.

It was good first time around with 'Tears For Fears' though I thought. But there is no denying it is a superb cover version that brought real depth and emotion to the track.

I'm talking cheese here. The rottenest, stinkiest cheese transformed into pure gold.

It was just a pop tune before, who ever listened to the words? Also who'd play the original now, it's not aged well?

At the time it was quite out of the ordinary. I'm old enough to remember hehe I never was a fan. It was just an observation.

GnR's own that song, the original McCartney version was always lacking something, they also did a good job with Knockin' on Heavens door.

I quite like Faith no more's cover of the Commodore's 'Easy'.

Cheesy song: "Hello" by Lionel Richie

Potential Golden Version: "Hello" by Deep Purple! Played at the same speed as "Lazy", same beat, and a 15 minute jazz-rock inspired solo by Richie Blackmore followed by a classically inspired middle 8 from Jon Lord.

Liberally sprinking Dutch stoner rock over awful Grease songs seems to work quite well :-

Plus it has cars in the video, so there's a tenuous PH link :-)
