Motor Show: Vauxhall Insignia

Vectra replacement will start at less than £16K

Vauxhall's Vectra replacement, the Insignia, will start at £15,935, the company has announced. Even the base 1.8-litre Exclusiv will come with high levels of equipment, including ESP, auto headlights, electric driver's seat adjustment and cruise control.

The company officially launched the Insignia at the British Motor Show and had a number of different versions on its stand. The 1.8 also comes with climate control, ABS and front, side and curtain airbags. The 1.8 will have around 140bhp and is one of five engines available for the Insignia.

There are two other petrol units - a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and a 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 - and two new 2.0-litre diesels with either 130bhp or 160bhp. Insignias will be offered with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

I must say I really like the look of the new Insignia, hope it translates well to the road in terms of looks and drive..if so I think Vauxhall may have a winner.

I think it looks a lot like the new Mazda 6, which looks great.
I do wonder, how do they come up with the names in range of equipment...

"Base model Exclusiv"... What will the top of the range be named?

Front looks good, not sure about the rear, but maybe I just don't like hatchbacks. Specs sound very good.

I think the design's alright, pretty safe. It looks very big, I wonder how the dimensions compare?

Not that keen on the car myself.

Will be curious to see how well it sells with engines of that size. Can see the 1.8 and 130 diesel being the most popular with todays petrol prices. A 1.6 would have been a good bet imo.

EXACTLY...

My Dad had a Cavalier years ago, they were simple. The basic one had no designation, then L, GL and GLS for the regular ones, with SRi for the sporty, and CD for the luxury one. You could also tell which was which from the wheel trims, which no one seemed to bother changing...

Ah, simpler times...

I'm hoping Insignia "Top" or maybe "Bestest"

"Better-than-Yow".

Am I the only one that thinks it looks like a beaver or some other rodent at the front then?

And the back could be anything Korean. Still, I expect it'll be as humungous as the new Mondeo and sell like Bangkok ladyboys (i.e., mostly to middle-aged family men).

I quite like the front, not sure about the back at all though. It just looks wrong somehow, IMO.

The fronts a bit bloody high. Those headlights are miles from the tarmac!

Definitely Mazda!
Love the look & it's not that "mundain" biggrin.

Prices are the same, but Mazda's has proven themselves in the past to be nearly bulletproof smile.
