Hi a few of you maybe aware I have had a wedge for a week now...

I have changed the steering wheel (as the one fitted was a bit small and thin rimmed) which made steering the car at low/no speed near impossible.

The replacement steering wheel is about 1" bigger dia and has about double the thickness of rim. Works just fine for steering at low/no speed.

The only problem I have (which might be why the old thin wheel was on there?) is that the top of the steering wheel is a bit closer to the dash, this is not a major problem but its a little tight on getting my fingers past the dash.

The steering boss is the older style "after market" type with holes for 6 or 9 hole wheels. (the new one is a 6 hole the old was a 9 hole) does anyone know where I can get a "spacer" to move the wheel away from the dash by maybe 1/4" to 1/2"? or maybe get a replacement wheel that will fit my boss that is dished a little more?

The other option is my friend has a old boss from his Chim if that will fit my Tasmin 280? (which I doubt!) I can then get a "standard" TVR steering wheel?

.
Any other possibles?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The original 280 steering wheel (at least on the series 1) was VERY dished, with a nice thick leather rim.
I'll see if I have a pic of one .
What series is your car, as different columns may have been used ?

I have steering wheel adjustment. Perhaps you don't, otherwise I would think adjustment could help you on this. Not a 280 owner so could be a 'bit' wrong here.

Yeah OK Rob, that's a 350i, but I have automatic steering wheel adjustment in mine, it remembers the settings and automatically returns to my ideal adjustment when I put in the ignition key.

Mine I think is a series 1.

No adjustment (I think its a TR7 coloumn) its not impossible to use just the dash brushes my knuckles as I steer past the dash.

If anyone has (or knows where i can get?) an original steering wheel then I'd like to be able to try one and see how it differs. I like the current wheel I have but could use it being slightly further from the dash.

Thanks again for your help.

If you can get to the BBWedgefest this coming weekend there'll be models of every age and type for you to compare.

Otherwise look on classifieds here and ebay for an original equipment one.
Some of the early cars do get broken from time to time.
One of the Tasmin Racer guys may have one to spare.

The correct wheels have no clearance problems for people with fingers less than
2 inches diameter. smile

This ebay ad has pictures of the 'original' type steering wheel on the early Wedge.
Very dished, as you can see. smile

Yes VERY dished. might have to see what I can find...but I do like my current wheel so IF I can get one a spacer will sort the problem for me.
