just come back off holiday to find that i cant get into the chim lovely at 4.30am

apparently the alarm has been going off randomly in my absence and this may well have drained the battery. however, i cant see why this would make a difference to the actual lock and solely the central locking. anyways, either way the key is turned there is no getting the door to open. same goes for the passenger side. is there any override or is it just a case of putting through the window?

any help gratefully received. not a happy bunny when havent slept for 36 hrs...

hi all, pleased to report i used the "method" to get in and no damage caused. Found the battery (eventually) and what a bitch that is to jump start! getting any leads on to the terminals was impossible so went for the approach of adding metal extensions to the jump leads and doing it from a yard away

couldnt get the f ing case back over the battery properly and only bolted in with 1 bolt rather than the 4 that came off. having said that, the battery is securely in place and it means less of a job next time i need to access the battery.

battery now charged following a rather spirited run up the A3 and then across to the A272/A32

So now the only problem is with the actual door mechanisms which appear to be completely bonkers. Tony, if you fancy popping over tomorrow night to take a look then there is some beers in it for you

Hi Shnozz,

Are you planning on going to the Hants meeting on Thursday? I was hoping to get along and was wondering whether you'll be in attendance so I can see the new Chim (assuming you're not locked out of course! ).

Cheers,

Richard

Schnozz,

Doesn't help your door lock problem but may help future jump starts. When I bought my Chim is already had one of the Leven mods www.leventechnology.co.uk/ that make jump starting an easy task.

Basically it has leads that lead into the engine bay which then has a kind of plug which is attached to the chassis just in front of the engine next to the swirl pot. So you just plug the custom jump leads into this and hey presto, can also be used for charging. No messing about in the footwell required! Never had to use it so far, fingers crossed, but sounds like it is worth every penny.

Do these wire back to the battery terminals directly or do they connect to something like the alternator output terminal? (And use the existing iring for the route back to the battery.)

I only realised because I was having an email conversation with Streaky, who lives in Farnham, and telling him about it. Went to the Hants site to check the date and hey presto!

The Leven Jump leads are wired to the starter motor for 2 reasons. Firstly this is where you want the power to go when jump starting not the battery. Secondly you want the shortest lead length and a relativly practical solution. A long cable run to the battery is difficult. If anyone would like more details please telephone us.

Cool ... thanks guys ... I've spent too many years hanging upside down working on the electrics of cars that seemed to require evolution to give us a couple of extra axis of movement in our arms to route cables to and through the dash!!!

I haven't looked but I was assuming that wiring direct to the battery would be a bitch but just wanted to check ... I have a feeline that this will be one of my first "mods" (as well as an override on the rad fans) as a 12v point is always handy.
