Not that exactly but did fit a similar device (from Tunit, on the www)to my VW Golf 150 Diesel.Made a huge differnce and when that car was sold a colleague fitted it to his 130bhp A4 Diesel where it still is.

I know they weren't BMWs but these things are available for all makes. From what I recall the tunit was £400 or so back in 2003

I think if you are going with a tuning box the Spider one is one of the better ones, it is adaptive and looks at the throttle response, so gives you more when flooring it and holds back fuel when crusing to save you fuel.
If not then one of the units from Steinbauer which is what AC Schnitzer use, these go on the individual injectors to give more fuel so don't increse to pressure in the fuel rail.
