I've currently got a Renault Clio 197 Cup on order. Having never been in a position to be able to buy a new car before, I'm unsure how best to run the engine in.

The first service isn't due until 12,000 miles.

Your thoughts please

Cheers

Keep it below redline for first 1000 miles is the norm, building up revs as you go, to let everything bed in. Anything else is largely podantic. Past 1000 miles, drive it hard if you want to free it up. Some cars are terribly asthmatic when new.
Doing an oil and filter at 1000 miles is largely just a precaution; modern engines are so finely manufactured that things like swarf from bedding in is minimal.
Just one point, have any of you seen how new cars are driven from the production line to storage, from storage to delivery lorries, from lorries to dealer pound, and from storage to PDI and to the customer...
