Had the TVR 4 years now and getting the itch to change.
Looking at the Vantage Roadster, has any AM dealers offered a decent price on a TVR in part exchange or would it be best to sell my TVR privately and then have a better chance of any price negotiation?.

Funny that. Mrs BC and I were at the AM dealership earlier this week considering changing our Chim 500 for a new Vantage V8. We are going to test drive next week when the version with more horses is available.

I have done the same sold my TVR about 3 months ago and now own a v8 Vantage. to be honest you will feel sick if you ask a garage to offer you a trade in price, they will offer a stupid price for your car...

your best putting a ad on here and try to sell it that way.....

I'm sure the advice about selling the TVR is right.

More to the point how are you getting on with the AM? How does it compare with the TVR. As I said I am delaying a test drive as the new AMV8's will have more power.

Funny you say that about the power, I went to a local meet and took a guy from here (he's got an elise) out for a spin and he was amazed at the speed. He told me that he thought with all the comments he had heard that it would be all show and no go.
Then again if I could have afforded one of the new 4.7 ones I would probably have one.

we have both, a Sagaris and a Vantage. Id sell private - trade price is rubbish on TVRs...well, used Sagaris go for about £30-40K still - holding well, but not in the trade - £18-22K and thats it...so seel private

Power wise - depends on which TVR you have, but its a different car altogether, you have to look at the whole package I think ...there are lots of ways to do a 2 seater sports car, from an Elise to Vantage, to a 599 or suchlike and I dont think you will be dispointed with the noise anyway, and a new 4.7 is an even quicker carwink

well i have only had the car for a week but managed to rack up 400 miles so far. Its never going to be as fast as my t350 was i knew that before i even bought one....the TVR was rough and build quality was not good but it was lots of fun and really kept you on your toes and because of that i'm sure i'm a far better driver now.....with the V8V its so refined and such a smooth power delivery which i'm getting used to, and the sound after 4,000 rpm sends a shiver down my spine every time...the eye for detail is superb and is a work of art....as for the handling I do find i can be heading towards a corner now and don't think twice if i wil get around it with out incidentsmile. so far i'm lovin the aston its an extremely accomplished car... yes it would be great if it was as fast as the tvr was but everything else about the car makes up for it not being as quick....

The V8s much publicised lack of grunt seems to have passed into motoring folklore. So much so in fact, that I have been informed that the Audi S3 is quicker!!!!

I don't claim that the V8 offers the searing pace offered by some marques but it is hardly slow... I am ready to admit the the greatest impediment to the V8s performance is moi, the squishy bit behind the wheel... smile

LOL - of course, people just quote what they read and I always chuckle myself when I read the motoring press and whatever expletives they are using to describe a car.

If you read about a new Ford Focus that does a ton in 12secs and 60 in 5secs it will be a Lambo challenger, the fastest thing theyve been in this year, with outrageous unmatched pace....

then read about another car and just because it costs 3x as much the same performance is just adequate

a new M3 is the danglies, supercar quick...but a Vantage that performs the same, isnt a supercar at all

the only bigger bunch of hypocrites than the armchair experts in the pub with their 15 yr old Escort RS are the motoring press that feed themwink

EVERYTHING is relative and depends on what you want from a vehicle and what you are most used to driving....we had a few cars in our fleet, the Vantage was the slowest...but also the nicest place to be most of the time for a week touring the continent.

IMO you choose the right tool for the job - one wouldnt buy a Roller then complain it was st on track, or an F430 and then complain it was crap for taking the family on holidays in...and most of us just dont buy a Vantage because it does a ton in 12secs and 60 in 5..in fact most of us have never done that in it...we've just enjoyed owning and driving a nice British sportscar...and whats wrong with that smile

I'm afraid I do not concur - my daily commute across London is along a route that is identical to the Nurburgring and I MUST MUST negotitate it in under 8 minutes or children will die and the very fabric of the universe shall implode.

My wife did suggest that I set off 5 mins earlier of course, but what does she know....

Remove fuse 22 from the fuse box in the boot and you won't have to wait until 4000 revs to get the spine tingle

lol @ stanwan ...im sure that there are many Vantages that have never made it out of the metropolis of the 'ring...sorry I mean London and the M25, and that a 'tour' to those poor cars is a trip up and down the M11 to Loughton or suchlike to stretch their legswink

I too have just gone from a TVR (Tamora) to a Vantage, (it must be something in the water).
I sold my Tamora privately though, (to another car club member) so didn't get hammered with a dealer valuation.

I did almost the same at Christmas. I sold my Cerbera privately through Pistonheads and though it took a few weeks (it was December after all...) I was almost fighting buyers off in the end. I could keep both cars, though it was a squeeze in the garage, so I didn't have to hurry, which definitely made it easier. My TVR registration plate is still for sale mind you...

As others have said although the Vantage isn't as out-and-out fast as the Cerb it is a much more complete car and always brings a smile to my face. It can run hard when it's wound up -I've done airfield days with Andy Walsh and with Don Palmer and apart from 4 new tyres the AM took it all in its stride.

I'm driving a 4.7 tomorrow which will be an interesting comparison but having only had the Vantage 8 months I'm certainly not in a hurry to change.
