For my mountain bike. I have a pari of Shimano ones at the moment but they are to small so need some new ones. Looking at £50 MAX prefer cheaper, casual look to them so you dont look like a knob when you walk round the town if you have ridden the bike in.

I have a pair of Specialized SPD shoes that i'm happy with. Dark green and brown in colour and of a canvas / alcantara construction, they are discreet and look very similar to a 'normal' pair of trainers / low cut boots when off the bike. Handy when popping into a pub mid-ride without looking like a bit of a cock. biggrin

They have moulded, grippy treads on the soles of the shoe which comes in very handy when pushing the bike up steep muddy slopes, etc.

The Evans chain of bicycle shops stock a good range of footwear - they should stock something suitable. Take a look at their website.

Hi Justin,
Spooky, SPD, Sport 160...... biggrin

I did want to come, just could not be arsed with the silly o'clock start. I have a great run to Rye from Maidstone services that i have done with a few people on SELOC a couple of time. Down there for Breakfast then up to Ashford for blast back along the M20.

I look forward to seeing you 160 though.

Cheers
Damien

Specialized BG shoes are brilliant. My knees aren't great and I've always found the most comfortable. Spec, spend a lot of money on Biodynamics research unlike a lot of the other manu's. Good value to.

I own a pair of Shimano MT31 shoes which look more like trainers and are normal laceups. I do think the shoe's support would be better with velcro straps, but at least I can walk into the office without doing a Shakin Stevens impression which I do with the firmer soles types

I had (have) a pair of Specialized BG shoes that were very comfortable and lasted about 10 years before starting to fall apart. Think they were about £80 when new.

Replaced them recently with some Time TXT shoes ('cos they were cheap - under £40) and they're nice to ride in but I can't see them lasting 10 years. Also, I discovered the hard way the other night that the toebox isn't as reinforced as the Specialized ones were! Ouch.

MBR June 2008 (if you can find a copy lying around) has a shoe group test.

eI've got the Shimano MT41, they have the velcro strap which, for me, is worth the extra over the MT31, makes them feel nice and snug/secure. These are the first SPD shoes I've used so just wanted something simple and cheap to see if I got on with SPDs (after many years of platforms only). I've been using them on one of my bikes for about 4 months and 1000+ miles so far and I'm really happy with them.

I have a pair of 661 Sessions (2007).

Comfy, and look like normal shoes.

Have a removable Velcro strap. The laces tuck into the tongue (?) of the shoe so don't get tangled and not stuffed into the shoe to make them uncomfortable.

Aye true. More normal, un-cycling looking than the rigid road bike shoes you get.

I got some of these a while ago:

They seem to do the job and are pretty inconspicuous.

I bought some Cannondale ones because they look like normal trainers. Good build qulaity and some good design features but the soles are poorly thought out. The tread design gets so close to the cleat that its hard to clip in. I had to shave some of the tread away with a stanley knife.

Youd have thought that was a failry abvious flaw but still...

Ill go for Specialized next time I think. There seems to be thought gone into them.
