Ok I know this sounds odd but looking to see if anybody has any experiences with the new S80 and 2.0D manual engine at all? This combination (in SE LUX trim) seems to work wonders in terms of tax etc as a company car but wondering how the engine performs in that car (earliest Volvo demo car is end-Sept!!!)

Also looking to hear is anybody has any experiences with new S80 with D5 manual - as the fleet policy may be updated next month to include this engine (current only has 2.0D for the S80).

Setting aside all benfit in kind issues as I can't answer that one for you.

2.0D vs D5 no brainer D5 everytime, the manual change isn't to everyone's taste, can be a bit cumbersome but D5 D5 D5 D5 rocks rocks rocks.

I have driven a few D5's (no S80's though) and I really rate that engine, great to drive

Isn't the 2.0D a four cylinder? If so, it would lose a lot of character as well as refinement to the D5. I think a 2.0 anything is probably a bit too small for a car as big as that. I have a V70 D5, and its hard to imagine a better combination of power, flexibility, refinement and economy.

Oh, and it sounds gorgeous as well!

I've got a (New model) XC70 D5 manual which is very similar and it's a nice car. Engine feels like it should be hooked up to auto but the manual change is ok (a little bit of a long throw and not too precise, but ok and you do get used to it).

well in the end I went for the S80 SE LUX 2.0D Manual (the D5 was another £3500 over the 3 year cost for me to pay the company car additional contribution).

And I must admit I've had the car a week so far and very impressed - the engine revs well, pulls well, is quite, and wafts along to motorways fantastically - much better than my previous A6 2.5D quattro...

Overall very chuffed with the car - the MP3/ipod system works well and there are lots of nice touches in the car, only niggle would be the bluetooth phone system not syncing well with Nokia phones frown
