Occasionally people link to another topic, and use the .co.uk domain in the URL. For people who normally use .com, this means you aren't logged in and don't get any of your preferences (e.g. skin) because of the cross domain cookie issue.

Would it be possible to simply rewrite .co.uk URLs at the server level so it's always .com pages that are served??

It would be better to rewrite them to match the domain in the Referer. Some places one of the domains is blocked but the other isn't.

Those of more technical knowhow can put the link in correctly for all, but shouldnt be the default for the site.

I agree that the site should defualt to the .com domain and I do have it on the list to do.

Might save you google penalties for dupe content too...
