Does anyone know where my car will stand plate wise?

It's a Spyder kit that was supplied by the factory in 1999 and has never been completed - hope to present for SVA / registration before the turn of the year.

The engine / gearbox strip / re-build will take those parts into 'reconditioned' territory.

Not too fussed about the outcome, but just thought it was worth asking!

With the information supplied to date I would say you are heading for a Q plate.

What documentation do you have?
Do you have ALL the invoices from the factory for 'new parts'?wink
Do you have invoices for the engine or gearbox to state that they have been 'remanufactured to as new'?wink
It's not the SVA you have to worry about for reg, it's how much you can flood the DVLA with folders of invoices for all the new parts, BUT the most important one is a Certificate of Newness.

If you have a certificate of newness for all the kit parts then you are left with the engine and gearbox.

For a new registration you can have one major assembly 'Re-manufactured' but must produce a certificate from whoever built it or all the receipts. This must fit the criteria of 'Re-manufactured to an as new condition' so just changing the plugs and points won't do it.

A Re-manufactured gearbox and a crate engine would do it.

If both are secondhand then you cannot score sufficient 'Donor' points to get an age related so you will get a 'Q'.

Steve

ETA Make sure you take plenty of photos as VOSA are now wanting you to convince them of your amateur build status so plenty of wider view pics of the build in a domestic setting.

Great.... so as im contemplating a 2nd hand Ultima what your saying is age related plates dont mean a fook, engines could have done 22,000 miles and gearboxes 25year old 150,000miles.
The car i am going to see 2morrow's 2000mileage doesnt actually mean a thing on the 2 major components

Its all about "wink" "wink" some paperwork here and there and "pumba" there ya go.
I havnt got a problem with that....i will just quote this thread to the seller 2morrow and tell him to shove his 2000miles right up his arZe.

thanks for the tip off guys.

rest assured that any vehicle that craigyboy intends to build will have all new components, or just a single component that IS refurbished to an as new standard and fully meets DVLA law. "WINK" "WINK"
As i am good like that
CHOW

I'm probably showing some ignorance here, but isn't an American Speed engine a remanufactured unit, and therefore, shouldn't the majority of Ultimi be fitted with brand new G50 gearboxes?

My car is fitted with a second hand G50 box, but I did fit a brand new ZZ4 engine, so I'm OK!

do you have cats and pass the current emissions then with a ZZ4 engine then? Im surprised as I thought the ZZ4 had a carb.

Back in 1999, Real Steel supplied my ZZ4 fitted with Holley Projection and a pair of cats. It was set up on their dyno and passed all emission tests in force at that time. However, I did not fit the cats to the exhaust when I installed the engine. The factory submitted the car for its SVA and the pass certificate came back with the "visual smoke only" requirement. I believe the regulations were tightened up a bit soon after, hence the switch from Real Steel to American Speed as the factories preferred supplier of engines, since Real Steel only supplied new block motors.

I guess what I was meaning is that the engine is almost always the remanufactured item in an Ultima as otherwise none would pass SVA..... and they stopped making new G50's many years ago.

And how many engines are out there that are genuine new alloys blocks and thus are actually brand new and yet also passing the visual smoke test?

Scotty... in order to get a new plate you will need a certificate of newness from the factory, I dont think its possible to get a new plate without it anymore even if you can prove every part is brand new.
