...everywhere.

in a kebab shop in south croydon, just next to coombe road down from the treehouse pub, about 12:30am with girl, normal fun evening, nothing mental just some drinks, ie not drunk.

ordering our food when this fellow walks in and asks for a burger and chips, please - his appearance stuck in my head because I thought it was unlikely that someone dressed like him would be so polite paperbag but he was quiet, polite and not at all uneasy or nervous..

seconds later, a large fellow rushes in the door of this narrow shop and barges the first chap to the floor (hitting the guys head against the counter in the process) and proceeds to deliver quite the most vicious beating i've seen possibly ever (and i'm from newcastle) he throws him to the ground and stamps with all his might on the victims head and torso in the manner known I think as "kerbing" many many times, props him up and makes thrusting motions with his fists, I don't know whether there was a knife involved but after that there was blood everywhere and then resumes the stamping.

the guy is lying on the ground motionless, i'm in shock, and trying to protect the girl i'm with who is clinging on to me and screaming a scream that makes the hairs on my neck stand proud just thinking about it eventually I bundle her out with another girl and try to call the cops but my hands fumble and I drop the phone and all of a sudden the attacker turns and flees down the street!

I still can't quite believe what happened!

I am grateful my girl and myself are safe, i'm bitterly sorry I didn't do anything but by the same measure not sure I could have done anything to stop it, it was all over within 3 - 5 minutes and I am not used to seeing those things.

I just can't believe it really, seemed completely motiveless although i'm sure there was some issue between them.. there was blood everywhere in the shop, my girl was in shock so we left, I told people i'd be a witness and they just didn't want to know! I don't know what happened to the victim, the ambulance I called as we were walking back when my wits were a bit more about me and I don't even know if the guy lived or died!

just shocked really..

Sounds horrible. I'm afraid that unless you were pretty handy yourself there is nothing more you could do other than take in as many details as possible to be a good witness and be prepared to look after yourself/your mrs if the attacker turns on you. Someone that wired, possibly with a knife would probably have made mincemeat out of someone telling them to 'calm down' especially if you couldnt meet them with equal force.

I assume so, I asked for them on the 999 call for the ambulance I didn't stick around longer than 10 minutes or so as my girl was still screaming and was dragging me away so I escorted her home..

bloody hell, that's terrible. Let us know more once the police get back to you which I assume they will as youre a witness right.

the attacker seemed mental, on a mission sort of thing..

he was also massive, sort of 6'4" or so and much wider than me - i'm a normal sort of chap, I have dabbled in odd fighting arts and chow gar among other things but this guy was going postal on the other fellow, would have been like trying to stop a chainsaw with your fingers.

I also had girl clingin to me, she's a gentle sort and she's definitely not keen on walking alone around there going about her daily business any more

there's a funny thing, I gave them all my details, even emailed them this morning and not heard anything apart from a call at lunchtime to confirm what I saw. apparently i'm the only other witness! the other 2 people in the shop did not own up to being there and the girl I was with does not want to make a statement for some reason (don't know her that well so can't really press the issue IMO) smile

Sounds like a nightmare even more so for the guy it happened to frown

I would urge you to do you bit and get in contact with the police about it and give a statement to them, it all helps them try to find the scrote and get him off the streets

well, quite biggrin people in the office this morning did take pains to tell me that!

lady friend quite nervous of the streets round her house now, delicate flower really hehe on the face of it, looks like a nice area of Croydon but I guess not - there were numerous other rumbles/argy not to mention, bargy that night in other bars too..

I live in Teddington now strange enough! would be good to see you fellow thumbup

i've emailed them and they're calling me monday for a statement proper. they don'e seem to be that interested!

it was like a scene from a horro movie, you know when a guy gets shot and his buddies drag the body and it leaves a streak of blood? it was exactly like that when the kebab shop men dragged him to the back of the shop. mental

I know how you must feel (not nice) as a similar thing happened to me and the girlfriend, though many years ago, it still sticks with me.

Only difference being, it happened at the Ace cafe. I was at the counter with the GF waiting to be served, when a chap sitting at a table next to the counter, smashed a sauce-bottle and set about three blokes with it - stabbing them in the face, many times!
There was blood everywhere, and this being right next to me. As with you, the GF was screaming and I got her out of there just as soon as I could.

Glad that you both ended up OK, though I bet your GF is still shaken by the experience.

Hope you are ok. Place seems to have gone downhill rapidly in the last 15 years.
I used to drive down that road every morning as I worked in Tanfield Road.

Sounds like the attacker might have been high on drugs.

Stamping on someones head has surely got to be regarded as attempted murder. furious Seen someone doing his in Sunderland on two occasions which is truely sickening.

ps, I'm not from Sunderland.

We don't need annual culls of seagulls etc, we need to concentrate on people.
