I looked at a 97 2.5 at the weekend and would be grateful if anybody could clarify a few points regarding the spec:

What are the additional items with the Lux & Sports packs? Is the CDR-21 the standard stereo? and is the black external "Boxster" badge on the engine cover a delete option (it was missing), or could this indicate a rear end repair?

Thanks, Richard

Don't assume rear end damage because the Boxster badge is missing, yes there is an optional delete, and also one of the previous owners could have removed it themselves.

Hi Richard

I have a similar car & age. Mine has the Sports pack which is Sports suspension & Traction control. The other items I am unsure on - what I have heard is the std Radio is not much cop, thus most I viewed had an upgraded unit.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess the Lux pack is climate control plus a couple of other bits?

I haven't made a decision on the car yet as I'm still trying to convince my wife that she'd like driving a Boxster.

Test drive. If that doesn't convince you and her nothing will.

As to whether your wife enjoys it or not it will come down to do you want a prestige sports convertible or not. I've known ladies not want a convertible as they actually don't like roof-off driving! I've also known people who don't want a Porsche because "its too flash" and they don't want to draw attention to themselves - particularly of the wrong kind.

The car's handling and acceleration is hugely endearing...depending on what your coming from I suppose.

If you've had a TVR then the big differences you will notice are:

1) Its not as quick by a long way.
2) It goes around corners properly.
3) The roof goes on and off easily.

And I could go on and on having a Chimaera and a Boxster S.
