im getting a rattle from rear diff / gear box when slowing down any ideas

you really need to try and be a bit more accurate as to where its coming from, try dipping the clutch then try putting it into neutral whilst moving, these two tests will isolate the engine and half the gearbox.

If it's a rattle it could just be something loose under the car and nothing major. If pressing the clutch pedal doesn't determine the cause then putting the car on ramps at an exhaust centre may show a fault.

It could well be the exhaust which is quite close to the chassis. Mine is a pig to adjust correctly as it sits to one side for some reason and every now and then reminds me by giving a gentle rattle - have to have another go at it shortly but the weather is too good at the moment and its not that bad so one for another day. Worth having a good look at though.

rear mount had broke and it sounded like a rattle... you need to check all mounting points for the zorst, diff and gearbox before suspecting internals... rattles are normally "externals"... I hope its nice and simple mate
