Depends where you are in the country but I put Pirelli p zeros on at elite and they were considerably cheaper than at a dealer....over £150 and that was just thee two rear ones

Elite are based in Dagenham...just off the A13

I got a new set for my 348 at the weekend, 4 pireli pzeros for £520 fitted. This was at bracknell tyres, by far the cheapest.

The sizes are 225/40/18 Z on the front and 265/40/18 Z on the rear. Has anyone experimented with changing the sizes - maybe a little wider on the back ?

ive put 285 on the rears to try but the sidewall is quite high and it seemed to affect the handling of the car slightly so reverted to standard size p zero

I believe there were 3 "original fitment" tyres; PZero, Brdgestone S01s and Goodyear Eagles.

I had PZero on mine originally and had a slow puncture in one. As they were all starting to wear I decided to try S01s as I hate the Pirellis in the wet.

All in, a dealer fitted them for 800 quid. The cheapest quote I had elsewhere was 724 all in, but the car was due at the dealer's anyway so I couldn't be arsed going to two places.

I always use Micheldever Tyres as a "control" place for pricing as they're usually on the nose. If they're not local to you, then call your favourite place and get them to get close to the Micheldever price (they can be found easily through Google on the web).

Not sure if the S01s are better in the wet as haven't used the car in that mode yet. They are, however, noisier so I'll either try Goodyear's next or move back Pirelli.

I stayed with the standard widths and profiles. Don't see any point in going wider at the rear as I don't believe it'd make a huge difference in terms of grip off the line and would potentialy make it worse in other areas.

I'd be slightly nervous of going outside the original fitment tyres without consulting my insurance company first.

As long as you are staying with the standard sizes i can't imagine an insurance company paying any attention to what make your tyres are..

For prices, i've found mytyres.net under cut micheldever and all the other usual suspects. These are mail order so you need to get them fitted but even so they still worked out cheaper for the esprit (235/40 front 295/35 rear).

cheers

The Goodyears wern't Eagles as in F1's but Fioranos specially developed for the 355, I'm sure they're a very good tyre but at around 2.5 times the price of the Pirellis or B/Stones they're a bit rich for me!

I ran some slightly wider fronts (235's as I got them cheap for trackdays) and they severly affected the handling, at Goodwood the car wandered all over the place down the Levant straight, I couldn't believe it would make that much difference but changed back to std and all was back to normal

Don't know if it's urban myth but I have heard of Insurers refusing to pay out on claims where non recommended tyres were fitted, I know Bracknell Tyres strongly recommend against fitting anything else

Have heard rumours that the S01's are difficult to get - is there a supply issue ? (looks like the best price for rears is £187 from an online tyre place)

I got mine through an auth. Ferrari dealer (Graypauls) with no availability hassle.

The price you have there isn't horrendous in my opinion. Best price I received was 175ea rear for S01s, but my notes are patchy and I can't tell who from! So it may be possible to get them a bit cheaper, depends how hard you want to try.

Whilst I've yet to try them in the wet, however, I wouldn't say that I'd recommend anyone chop in their Pirellis for the S01s at this point in time (despite having a couple of BIG twitches on Pirellis in snow and standing water!).

If you end up smacking a 60k+ car and the insurers get wind that you weren't running original fitment tyres I would strongly suspect that any insurance company will raise eyebrows. I probably would (raise an eyebrow) as I know from experience how big a difference tyres can make to the way a car goes, stops and corners.

Of course it would depend on the nature of any accident as to how far they might be able to take this, but I personally don't think it's worth the risk. I'd definitely want to get in writing that my insurer didn't mind what brand/model of tyre was fitted.

I checked out the price of Goodyear Fioranos (also run flat as well as designed for the 355) but the best quote I received per rear tyre was 604GBP (all in )!! I declined, but if money were no object it'd be interesting to try.

Guys,

I run my 348 Spider with 285/35 at the rear and 235/35 at the front on 182 rims. The tyres I use are KHUMO tyres. They are £100.00 inc VAT and are great. They use these tyres in the US Ferrari Challenge Series. Best tyre I have bought for the money and are as good as the main brands. Greta for the dry and wet. I will never spend loads of money on main brand tyres again.
Many Ferrari owners on Ferrarichat.com recommned them..
