Hi,

Does anyone know if a Cerbera Speed Six has better ground clearance than a Griffith 500?

I'm about to return to TVR ownership, but I live up a private road where the landowner has installed some truly evil speed bumps. One neighbour has a Boxster S, which can get over, but another has an old 911 which bottoms out. We were visited by a Griff 500, which graunched the plate under the exhaust pipes, but a visiting M3 had no trouble.

I've been told that Tuscans have more ground clearance than Chims or Griffs, but it is a standard Speed Six Cerbera that I want to buy.

Thanks

Not sure if this is any help but I know that my Chim 400 has 130mm ground clearance. Would imagine that this is the same, if not very similar, to a Griff. May help you to make a comparison.

The specific ground clearance can be found in the hand book so hopefully there are a couple of helpful owners out there with thier hand book close by.

Why don't you speak to your dealer and ensure that you use the driveway on your test drive?

AAAH. Not sure if they will agree to a 300 mile round trip test drive just so I can rip the sump out at my place. There are some local club memebers who could help out, but it seems a bit cheeky to ask them to deliberately put their prized TVR's in harms way just to help me out. I guess I'll just have to ask and hope that no damage is caused!

Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'll also ask about the ground clearance in the Cerbie handbook.

but the wheel base is longer than a tuscan i think, then it still might be a problem.

Why not 'drop' a little concrete in a couple of places?

I live just outside Watford (Herts) and the council seem bent on putting these bloody bumps everywhere!! & I’m afraid that I have found that in my Cerbie S6 I need to slow right down to go over them…..and I won’t even tell you about the round trips I have to do when I’ve actual got other people in the car!!!

One little trick I have found useful is to go through these in the middle that way nothing scraps, but obviously no good with the bumps the go the whole length of the road….

This answers my question. I looked in my old Chim & Griff servicing book and it says Griffs have 146mm clearance. As the visiting Griff 500 grounded out, a 130mm cerbie clearance wouldn't cope. B*****.

FYI - the reason the speed bumps are there in the first place is that the Farmer got done over financially by the bloke with the 911 and the Boxster. To get his revenge he laid speed bumps. I also got done over by the Porsche owner (sold my Chim to raise the deposit to give him for the house), so this just gets worse!

Right - if any of you ever spot a jacked up Cerbera Speed Six on knobbly off-road tyres, you'll know what I've had to resort to..........

Is that a private road or is it still maintained by the local council?

If its the local council, then I believe that the maximum allowed height for a speed hump is 4 inches - i.e. 100mm. If its higher you could get in touch with them and request to have it redone (or threaten to hold them liable for any damage caused to your car?)

even if its a private road, you have access rights? in which case speed bumps over the "normal" height restrict your access? worth a thought.
