What is the best way to do it? Soak the gear in soapy water? Scrub the inside with soapy water and sponge? Any friendly cleaning products to use? Don't want to damage them in any way, but they are starting to smell like saddle rot, which in turn is making me smell like an old 15th century French Cavalryman...

Wurth do a clothing and helmet liner santitiser spray. Might be worth trying something like that.

The only alternative I can think of is filling a bath with clean cold water and no cleaning products. Pop the leathers in and wash them in the bath, then leave them to dry naturally. After that, feed the leather with a suitable leather care product.
