Seems to be that realistically priced cars are changing hands but there's a lot of poor quality cars about at inflated prices.

I'm on the look out for the right car - budget dictates 2001 - 2003 model - and the cash is burning a hole in my pocket.

I think prices for good, obviously well maintained or late model cars are relatively stable. But equally some older models seem to be advertised for long periods with people not managing to shift them even after dropping the price.

I guess people need to be realistic about their expectations and I'd say it's currently a buyers market

Also, whats the difference between 4.0 Speed Six, 4.0S and 4.0R???

Look mate, this is a scam!

There was only ever one Tuscan R made and it was probably destroyed by the factory (as it was a kind of prototype for the Typhon). All Tuscan's are speed sixes. The only varieties are: Tuscan 3.6, Tuscan 4.0, Tuscan Red Rose or RR and Tuscan S. Later cars post 2004 were referred to as Tuscan 2 as they were facelifted and had differen't interiors, etc. That is it.

I personally doubt you will find any of the above varieties with 21k miles for less than £10k and if you do, there is something wrong with it. If your looking at an older, cheaper one, I'd check to see when and if it has had an engine build. If hasn't, probably factor in another 5-6k for a rebuild as it will probably need one.

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but there's no such thing as a bargain.

Thanks, so then there is only one type of 4.0, because i've noted two differnt BHP's and 0-60's being under and over 4secs and also top speeds of 195 or 200+

The Tuscan S and Red Rose are both 4.0, albeit supposedly with a higher output than the std 4.0

I wouldn't really pay much attention to quoted figures, each car is different. I had a 2000 Tuscan 4.0 Red Rose followed by a 2004 Tuscan 2 3.6. On paper the 4.0 RR was more powerful, but on the road the 3.6 was a quicker car.

They are all really good and whichever one you go for will be fast and fun (as long as you get a good one).

Personally, if I were you, I'd drive as many differen't cars as you can and buy the one that feels right regardless of model or engine size.

Agree with the advice about trying lots and buying on condition. I would also pay a lot of attention to the history (phone the dealers who've worked on it regularly) and to the person who's selling it - do they sound like they've looked after the car, warming up the oil and getting small issues sorted etc.

I would also have Rob Ingleby (findasportscar.com) check it over, he has driven more speed six tvr's than most of us have had hot dinners so knows a thing or two. Plus he charges around the same price as the RAC do for an inspection
