Im not sure about the elise but im slightly confused as to how the new stripped out megane is quicker than a exige s when performance wise on the road it will murder it?? and surely the meganes top end isnt much more than the exige s. Strange.

talking with a mate, he was at the ring a few weeks ago, and someone with a 'tweaked' Elise R (i, and he didnt know the details) managed to get below 9 minutes...

apparantly lost one of the front vents during the lap...

I did think that too!

Still I had a R26 pass me in my old Clio in the Wet and it was moving very well.

Surely an S could beat it tho!

the whole "ring time" thing is just plain odd and just become a marketing tool these days...I mean my AM Vantage, which is "too slow" in most car mags is 8min1sec and yet the new Megane thing is THE track car to have and pisses all over any factory Lotus these days ......whatever

Maybe I should put up a post " Most enjoyable Ring lap"

I would like to have a go lapping the ring in a variety of machinery to see which gave me the biggest grin!

Still think with the Roof down and a Larini or Similer a Lotus is hard to beat for smiles. .....

Neil McKeann, the certified Scottish nutter who raced in LoT last year drove his normally aspirated honda S1 (220 bhp) round the ring in a hair over 8 min (less than 8:10). His car was an absolute shed bar the engine, but Neil is pretty handy behind the wheel. An exige S should manage pretty similar.

The manufacturer test cars will always get around quickly as they are being driven by race drivers with 1000's of laps of the ring behind them. Thorough circuit knowledge would be vital in getting a decent lap time, which pretty much excludes most of us.

S would torture the megane its ridiculous, 0-60 in 4 secs to 6ish in the megane and 0-100 the exige will murder it and thats before we even get to the handling front. The exige has beat some very tasty and fast machinery round some circuits so i find it hard to believe that the likes of the renault are quicker.
