Measuring the top steering coupling
Discussion
I've a 96 Griff and wish to replace the 2 steering couplings/ UJ's. The bottom one next to the rack is easy enough to measure, 80 odd mm long with 13 mm shaft both sides. The top one is really close to the mounting and it is difficult to get the diameter of the shaft coming from the steering wheel. Again it is 80 odd mm long, with obviously 13 mm at the end I can easily measure. Does anyone know if there is a 'usual' size of the shaft coming fro the steering column?

You're looking to source it yourself? I couldn't find a match and was told it was made from parts from different joints. Maybe you'll have more success, but if you just want to buy one and be done with it you can get them through any of the usual TVR specialists.
Cheers for that. I'm going to buy from Clever Trevor, the challenge is that there are 3 version that are listed and are used, after chatting to the guys (who also said pretty much the same as your advice) there I've managed to identify one of them, just need one more detail for the top one to know for sure what it is. Am trying to do this without taking the car off the road for more than 1 weekend.....Pupp said:
What's the life on these things? Mine seem ok but I do get a bit paranoid given the pounding they must take on the crap roads around here... wouldn't want one to fail
Lets say I live in London, the roads are 3rd world at the best & I've replaced nearly all the suspension & now am working on the steering. I don't believe that they fail a such, you can tell when they are going when there is play in the steering. You will begin to notice it on the motorway.
