Hi Guys,

Picking up my 07 Golf GTI tomorrow after 7 yrs of audi diesel (ok, last 9 mths was a focus diesel, due to house move which never happened)bounce

It just occured to me, do these cars run on super unleaded as its known as in n ireland (98 octane) or can regular unleaded be used. If so is it likely to cause any damage?? using regular unleaded that is

cheers

paul

I'm not sure what VW recommend, but it will run on both grades fine as the engine has knock sensors and will adjust ignition accordingly.

It should run fine on 95 Ron but may go better on 97/98 or 99 Ron.

Look inside the fuel cap - there should be a sticker. There is on my Edition 30 GTI which says 98 Ron. The manual says though that 98 Ron is for optimum performance and 95 Ron is fine.

I asked the Salesman when I got mine what fuel it took. I was told 95 would be fine, only then when you come to fill the thing up you see inside the fuel cap says 98. frown

I have been filling up with both Vpower if I am close to home, but not too bothered about putting 95 in if away from my usual fuel stations. Does not appear to be a problem.

I'd agree with that, I average 35-36.5 MPG on 98/99 octane and it drops to 32-33 in 95 on the rare occasion i was forced to use it. the 10% better MPG more than pays back the 5p/litre price hike.

Intresting, the label on the inside of my fuel cap says min 95

the sales guy told me super unleaded was recommended every 3rd fill
