Just fitted a new clutch, slave and master, all put back together but wont go in gear when running, everything is lined up fine on the slave so not that, just wondering if its the new black power slave being the problem having read somewhere that they are 5mm longer than the silver one i took out, any help really needed at the mo as i'm missing this good weather and its driving me mad. There is peddle pressure but a bit spongy and it seems to bleed easy enough.
Many thanks

If you start her in 1st with the clutch all the way down does it pull forward? If so then it sounds like the system just needs bleeding better.

"new black power slave"?? did you not compare the two before fitting? Bet this is your problem. If you assembled OK and have bled the system then what you have fitted may be your problem...unless by some real bad luck your master cylinder has gone at the same time.

if its spongey you still have air in the system .. did you align the bleed/feed holes in the slave top and bottom? Anyway .. if youve bled it all you can and it still wont clear it's all coming apart again .. at least you know how you're spending your next weekendwink

Found the problem, Tvr Power says the black slave cylinder in 10mm longer than the silver one i replaced and it has to be machined down, so anyone who orders one ask first as they will do this for free. A long weekend ahead I think.
Thanks for the help

I had exactly the same problem with my clutch from Power. Wouldn't clear the gears. Spoke to them they advised it the different sized slave cylinder. Related this to my mechanic, he tried it with the original slave cylinder and it still wouldn't clear!

Bit the bullet and got it trailered to hexham horseless. They checked everything was fitted and bled correctly and it still wouldn't clear! They replaced the clutch with one from their stores and it worked first time, turned out to be a dodgy clutch from AP. I would try it with the original slave and see what happens.

I know you said "wont go in gear when running" but how does it feel while going through the gears with the engine off?

Also I would have thought that if the slave was longer than original this might have the same effect as having your foot slightly pressed on the clutch pedal. I don't know the clearance between slave and the clutch springs but this 'could' lead to a permanent connection between the clutch and slave bearing causing premature wear.
Or another possibility, as has been suggested (but not necessary proven) the possible cause of premature finger failure being caused through pressing the fingers 'beyond' their limits and having a slave that is longer I would have thought would increase this possible scenario further.
Just a couple of thoughts I had, which I thought I'd share.

I was supplied the 5m/m longer slave cylinder piston and fitted it without knowing,i could get all the gears but the clutch slipped. After finding out what the problem was and having to take it all to bits again and get the piston modified, once re-fitted i had trouble getting the car into gear. All i did to rectify this was adjust the clutch pedal travel.Clutch has done 8000miles now with no issues-touch wood!

I don't like the sound of this! I've just finished fitting a new clutch and slave cylinder (family stuff taking up my time!) and while the gears select very easily, I just took it out for a run and there is clutch slip when accelerating! I can't cope with the thought of taking it apart again!!

Well i have been told that there were 3 different slave cylinders fitted to Cerbs and the one fitted to mine (98 4.5) was not in stock at the time.Best thing to do is take your old one to the place you bought your new one from and ask them if the new one they supplied is the same as your old one.If not its all coming to bits again Matey!
