Rover Thor 4.0 V8 - Tuning
Discussion
Hey people,
Currently plotting transplanting a local 4litre Rover Thor V8 (with a Ford Consul Capri, if anyone is interested)
Starting with the engine first, has anyone had any direct experience with re-building and tuning this engine? The Manual variant, naturally. Not looking to spend mega-bucks on tuning, but would really like to gather as many horses as i can for non silly money!

You can get about 250-260 BHP and 250/260ft/lb out this engine without increasing capacity
Port the heads, bump the static compression up to 10.5:1
Decent cam (many to choose from but say V8 developments Stealth grind)
Short trumpet base with 45 mmm trumpets
Port inlet to match trumpets and heads
Open up throttle to 72mm - needs a new butterfly
Replace RR cast exhaust manifolds with free flowing type and as few silencers as possible
You can get the original ECU re-chipped to cope with all this but I'd put it in the bin and fit an aftermarket effort that way you get control of the sparks as well as the fuel so much better drive ability and power
you may have to change injectors as well depending on whats fitted
