Deleting a thread on surplus parts.

I posted an advert for some wheels in the classifieds some time back, these are only exclusive to corvettes so I posted a link in the Vette forum. Today I posted some information on brakes I am also selling, these are parts exclusive to corvettes and from private use that might be of use to any other owner who frequents that forum. The usual act of word of mouth between owners which is now word of post through forum. I can't understand why it's been deleted, I'm not commercial.

Ive no wish to abuse the rules and regulations and realise it's difficult at times trying please everyone, for example take the thread that I'm also asking for parts on the corvette forum. Hopefuly this example of how they deal with things on the U.S. ZR-1 forum, as with other rare-ish marques, will be of use.

To be honest Gaz, a Corvette C5 owner started a similar thread when he advertised some of his spare parts a while back, things didn't get out of hand then, besides were is the harm in enthusiasts swapping tips, info on parts sold/wanted etc in their own forum it's not as though the forum is too busy. I could understand it if I was a commercial seller.
Like I say I'm not having a dig, but amongst enthusiasts common sense should prevail.

Whilst I can understand your post, as Gaz say's we don't make the rules we are purely here to try to enforce them, the rules of posting clearly states that you are NOT allowed to post adverts on the forums. This rules is enforce consistently across all the forums when they are seen. Sorry but there cannot be one rule for one forum and another rule for other forum, we are all enthusiast at heart we just choose different marques.

Should however you still feel that your post was not an advert and it was deleted unfairly, then please email Haymarket (garlick) directly and they/He will be able to reinstate your thread if they/he argees.

After all PH do offer free advertisement but only via the classifieds.

I honestly didn't see it as an advert, just an oppurtunity to move some of my surplus parts to another enthusiast. If you want to delete my thread why not go the whole hog and delete the other thread thats asking for parts (after all money will change hands), and other threads that have posted in the past, what I did earlier.

There are no rules relating to wanted posts, we do however also try to steer those towards the classifieds and they can if allowed clutter the forums.
You are welcome to reply to wanted ads, but you cannot directly post adverts in the forums. As I said we are all enthusiasts, but it doesn’t give us the right to break the rules that we agreed to when we signed up just because it suits us.

As I say if you weren't advertising parts for sale then you have a the right to complain that your thread was unfairly deleted. It’s very simple, just press the report button and this thread will be reported to the moderators forum where Haymarket can address your issue.

I have to echo Als post, PH rules have always stated that we don't allow ads on the forums. The rule applies to all forums and includes trade advertisers too.

PH has recently made a significant investment in the development of the classifieds, and i'd ask that all ads are placed there- it's still free too.

Apologies if you feel this is harsh, but it's the same old PH rules.

Well, I think there's room for improvement, especially as most forums only have a few active threads a day and the amount of surplus parts advertised 'wanted or for sale' by private owners wouldn't crowd things out. Classifieds for commercial sales I can understand but most ads for 'odds and sods' for that particular forum get lost up there in the larger classifieds. None the less it's your forum and I will respect your wishes but I still think it detracts from the enthusiastiast's feel.

I think in the past there would have been a bit of slack shown in the Corvette forum as it is also hosted at www.corvettechat.co.uk where there are no classifieds.

That may be why strict enforcement of the rules now is causing a minor gripe.
