Why not get an SR20DET engine and turbo? Just don't buy it a few days before Racewars. hehe

Multiply how much your car cost by about five or possibly ten and it'll be about that much as if your having trouble with an air filter you'll be wanting someone else to do your conversion.

Speak to Ed at Fusion Motorsport, he's done this conversion before, as well as dropping SR20DET's into 'Meras(sic).

I looked in the classifieds, £500 to £1000 seems the going rate. i.e. about the same as just a bare Garrett turbo. smile Thats before oil lines, intercooler, associated pipework, exhaust, manifold, BOV, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, rail, engine management, fitting, mapping etc.

Personally I'd look at cam kits and other breathing mods instead, they can get 190hp easily from those motors, as demonstrated by the Tommy Kaira motors (or whatever they're called now).

I had a Sunny GTi, great little cars biggrin

NOS'it

A good set up will cost around £1500 and unlike a turbo you can remove it and use it on your next car

How about sell it and buy one which has already been converted? Cars never keep the value you put into modifying them so let someone else take the hit. Of course if its about makign the car 'yours' then you need to do it yourself in which case it would be a lot cheaper (than paying someone to do it) but either be prepared for a lot of hunting around to find stuff cheap secondhand or be prepared to pay out money for new parts.

Try the Almera Owners Club(.com I think). I'd be very surprised if they couldnt give you the full list of what you need to do and a very accurate costing too as well as plenty of people who have already done both the SR20DET swap and the SR20DE+T.

I did a conversion on a friends car (I got him to do much of the easy stuff) and it took us 4 days. It dynoed 205 iirc at surrey RR. It cost him about a grand, but I pretty much provided my time for free as it was a fun project.

Why not try asking on the almera owners club forum! Might have all the answers you need from people who have carried out similar projects before.

I have done this - more than once, if the owner wishes to contact me.

People have put the SR20DET in the primera before. Just find one out of an S14 200sx with turbo and everything and if your handy and can do it your self it wont cost too much. The standard Garret T28 on the SR20DET is good for 280 BHP with a good Intercooler/exhaust/boost-controller/remap.

200sx is not a good choice. RNN14 (gtir) turbo and manifold is much better.

Its arguable that the turbo is better. It can potentially make a little more power due to the larger exhaust housing, but is quite a bit more laggyer as a result.
