Minder's back...sort of

Have seen a few trailers for this now.
I'd like to think that I'm not one of these 'stick-in-the-mud' types who never wants to see anything reinvented.
I used to love Minder; but I have two reasons why I think it should remain a bygone programme.
1. It was 'of the era'. It was the first shoots of Thatcherism; capitalism for the common man. We now live in a nanny state whcih would give old Arthur palpitations.
2. I really don't think that any actor could ever capture the Arthur Daley role like George Cole. I think he took it so far as for it to become sacrosanct and synonymous with him. (Shane Ritchie is simply too young!)

I cannot see this working at all. Billy Murray would have been a better choice (And he did appear in an old episode).
An old Jag and a sheepskin coat was Arthur Daley - I mean for years dodgy car dealers were called Arthur Daley's (And some do still exist).
It just worked in its era and I cannot see it working today at all. What next? A remake of the professionals starring Wayne Sleep and Gok Wan?

Big mistake to try and bring this sort of thing back in a modern setting.
Like "The Sweeney", "Professionals" and "The Avengers" ,Minder was a programme that reflected its era.
Another example, are the poor attempts to re-make Michael Caine classics like "The Italian Job" and "Get Carter" . The originals again reflect the era they were made in and are an important ingrediant to their appeal. The remakes cannot capture the feel of the periods in which these films programmes were set.
These shows/films should R.I.P and remain as classics.
If they are that desperate, why can't they do something very loosely based on the old Minder but without trying to imitate it, if they are so short of new ideas ?
