Hello everyone,

I realise this topic is very random and I have only created it out of pure interest!

Right, Do you think peoples taste in Italian cars change with the times? Eg. People who loved the Diablo when it was the flagship model still prefer it to say the LP640 cosmetically.

Because when I was at Goodwood last year I was looking at the LP640 and overheard a man who I judged to be roughly 40 - 50 stating to his friend that he still prefered the Diablo.

As it stands, My favorite car is the LP640, Do you think that this Lambo will be my favourite even when new models are released. I prefer the LP640 to the Reventon...

Basically,

Has your taste changed as the newer Lamborghinis come out?

Any input would be appreciated!

Just out of interest!

I think it very much depends on what lambo/ferrari/maserati bring out as their next models - some people will always think the older models look better, some will prefer the new ones. I personally prefer the 993 porsche to the 996 and 997 but like the 997 more than the 996. I don't think there will ever be anything more to it than personal taste....some will, some won't!

I personally would still have a Diablo over the newer models. They just look somehow more dramatic.

Olie,

My tastes changed until the end of the Diablos. I am afraid that although the new Lambos are

great I stopped at the Diablos which were the last of the old Lamborghini wether good or bad.

I have one Diablo already with another one on its way from France. - A grey Diablo GT.

I make it a +5!

Though, as a kid, growing up, the 'dream car' for me was the Countach... The Diablo definitely has a more refined line while maintaining the outrage. For me, the newer cars are all too tame.

The way I see it is like this:

Countach - 100% outrage, 0% 'styling' studio

Diablo - 80% outrage, 20% styling

Murcielago - 20% outrage, 80% styling

...as much as I know they will perform better, handle better and be more reliable, they are also very 'pretty' cars but the newer Lambos just don't flip my switch.

I don't want 'pretty' I want offense!

This is purely based on styling though and not simply because they are 'new' as I *LOVED* the Pagani Zonda on sight and the first thing out of my mouth when I saw it was "They have out-Lambrghini'd Lamborghini!" At a time when modern Lambos are becoming easier to drive (yawwwn) and waaay more tame styling-wise, I completely loved the Zonda's true, supercar 'outrage'.

Similarly I like the Enzo, the MC12 and even the Apollo (ish)

I'm not keen on the Veyron, or PCGT as they're just graphic designer's, apple-mac, jelly mould bubble cars and for me, the Koenigsegg looks really bland. These all do nothing for me personally - they inspire no *emotional response* from me whatsoever

I think the thing they all have in common is that they are 'wedges' an I grew up in the outraegous, 'wedgey space ship car' era, rather than the timid, bland, Audi TT jelly mould era. (ew!)

There's a rumour going around that the marketing/image managing bods with Volkswagen AG are hearing certain voices regarding their 'demon child' in Italy.

The voices are saying, "take Sant'Agata and Lamborghini back to their roots, back to the days of outrage and wonder"...

... seriously, I didn't just make that up, 'onest injuns guv'nor!!

Now - imagine a car with the multisensual-blasting drama of the Diablo, the hammer blow modern dynamics of the Murciélago, the stomach-gripping intimidation of the Countach and the greedy grace of the Miura...

... a thought that makes me shiver, even if it is a bit on the chilly side in Lancashire this evening.

an SE30 or a GT are surely the only diablo's you could choose over a murcielago, let alone an LP640...

I can (kind of) relate, while Diablos are nice to look at but an LP640 is the ultimate Lambo for me. Probably because I only really started to take notice of cars a couple of years ago so I've never really experienced the whole drama of old Lambos. A Countach at the motor show didn't do much for me compared to the LP640 right near it.

With Ferrari it's the same. I'd take an F40 over an F430 just because I could buy more F430s from selling an F40, but it all comes down to personal taste obviously.

Thanks for the replies people.

I am hoping that my love stays within the LP640 over futre Lamborghinis because that means there is a higher chance of owning one. (If the Government doesn't attempt to make them extinct!)

I love the Diablos, Gallardos, Muira's and obviously Murciélagos... But I cant say the Reventon has grabbed me, I mean, Its a fabulous looking machine but I would still take the normal LP640! And the Countach is not my scene...

LP560 hasn't really blown my skirt up but I can only seeing them getting better. Wasn't a major fan of the example at Goodwood IMO.

Again, Thanks for your input.

Oh yeah - the Reventon - Love it! That's a 'modern' car - but it's chuffing outrageous! I like the LP560 way more than the original Gallardo too...

I guess it all depends on how much one as an individual likes the sense of outrage and drama or prefers that Audi-TT-apple-mac 'design' aesthetic (yawn! tongue out )

Very excited by the prospect of something appropriately outrageous coming out of the tractor factory soon...

The answer is simple.

Do you love or hate pop up headlights????

Personally I love them, I prefer the Diable when it had them to the later ones, The 430 and 360 Ferraris dont have a patch on the F355 an 348 looks wise eaither. Plus the older cars were more, super-car-y-ridiculous-impractical-designed only for speed sort of cars. The newer stuff is a little too practical for me.

In desperate lusty-lurve with the Reventón here as well... the 560 certainly carries the banner of Sant'Agata onwards very well in my opinion... yet to actually see one in the metal so perhaps should take a trip down to Stockport one day soon!

I still don't get the problems people have one way or another vis-a-vis older versus newer Lamborghinis ... to me, they are all great cars. New bugs like the ease of use of the newer cars but don't seem to much like the old 'un's... which they almost certainly have neither driven or owned ... and some of the more determined old guard (whatever age they may be themselves) bemoan the increasing Audi-ness of the interiors of the new cars so seem to be saying that the preponderance of Fiat-based 'autodismantles-when-used switchgear' was never a problem for them...

It's perhaps a truism to say that without the Gallardo there wouldn't actually be a car making company called Lamborghini making anything these days, except the companies that never made the cars in the first place that FL also sold on and left to the world (the wine is getting ever better these days btw!)

Equally, without the years of struggle and the legacy of the cars made from 1963 until the late 1990's there wouldn't have been a car maker called Lamborghini for VAG to buy and enhance.

To all you happy Gallardo and Murciélago drivers and owners - don't 'knock' the older cars until you've experienced some of them first hand... and anybody who thinks that a 21st century Lamborghini is missing something intangible - try to drive one, for a while, if you can... they don't make your arms ache or your ears bleed as standard but all that can be arranged, really it can!

and, having been a Macintosh user since early 1985... I really, curse really smash object with some ranty-objectingness-ness ranting to having the best and most innovative computers in the world compared to a cramped bit of TaT, so there. blah

imo, Macs are like Lamborghinis - a 'distanced from the norm' product that's unique, individual, cool-looking, powerful, different... and yes, I know, Lamborghini have given their name to some badged pcs lately, that's just one more sample of sod's law if ever there was one...
