A Worrying Development
Discussion
BBC Scotland last night. Local Councils in some borders villages are campaigning for the installation of cameras where no history of serious accidents or deaths exists. They want the cameras in place before such accidents occur as, in their words, it is only a matter of time. A number of campaigners said, to camera, that where NSL becomes 30 or less, regardless of accident statistics, there should be a camera i.e the entry to every village in the country.
What was interesting is that the numpties they were interviewing all pointed over their shoulder towards the stream of traffic, complaining that an accident was bound to happen at some point in the future with so many vehicles trundling through their rural idyll. Of course they failed to mention that because of the volume of traffic on the road they were all doing around 15mph......
So, is this the start of a worrying trend? Nothing is approved yet but the campaign seems to be gaining momentum, with councils and local police being lobbied for a change in the rules. Of course, we hope common sense prevails, but when was the last time we saw evidence of that?

What makes me laugh is that everyone wants a speed camera outside their house but hates them being anywhere else! I guess they're all outside someones house
I heard of a proposition that all should sound their horn when going over a speed bump. Why not extend it to cameras. Locals soon get fed up?

I like the cut of your jib

Ok so I guess I shouldn't use "less than" in my mails! Try again:
Hi, new chap here.
So I've taken to honking over speed bumps in an area near a B&B I'm having to use at the moment. I leave at 6:45am and usually only toot (illegally LESS THAN 7am) over one selected at random.
Now maybe I'm paranoid but last winter not long after I started doing this I was following a huge Jewson truck which was making plenty of noise on its own account so I didn't toot that day. There were some policemen waiting in a doorway towards the end of the run...
The theory goes that one or two dimwitted residents ask for these ridiculous bumps to be put in so it's them who should suffer. The silent majority will then become less silent and campaign for their removal.
