Another question, I am thinking about running the car at Bedford on the Novice day - will I get away with a Larini at 102db at 6200RPM. ?

Highly unlikely. Bedford are draconian with noise limits due to hassle from the council. Also, there appears to be some difference between the dB readings that Bedford give vs the other circuits (even the other MSV ones). My car has a honda / sports cat / huge 2bular 8*24 backbox. It statics as follows (all with the same setup, same revs):

Brands 93dB
Snetterton 92dB
Cadwell Park 93dB
Castle Combe 94dB
Bedford 100.7 dB

Many other trackday regulars have had the same experience of the different noise levels recorded at Bedford. Go figure...

The reality is that the driveby at Bedford is the most likely noise limit people will end up breaking. No warnings, just day over, go home, lose your money.

Not good as motorvision reluctant to give a refund - any recommendations - I could put the car back to standard - bit of a hassle for a couple of hours tho!

Put the standard backbox on for the day - the bolts will be fairly new, so shouldn't be more than an hour's work. At least that way you can enjoy the day without fear of the noise police.

Are you running a cat?

I ran a Larini on a 111s - it was fine for years, then just before the honda went on, I started running foul of noise limits at Bedford even though the static was the same as always at every other circuit.

My current setup is quieter than the Larini (very quiet actually) but still causes problems. Bedford is really becoming the sort of place only worth visiting if you have a standard system. 102 dB is far too close for comfort - anyway, the 111r only really gets loud on 2nd cam, so the driveby is likely to be your biggest issue. It would be annoying to drive there and then get chucked off 5 laps into the day. One strike and you are out.

Yeah deffo put the standard one on. They almost didnt let me on last time. Sport 160 with Janspeed back back and induction. No way I would get on now with the eliseparts exhaust. I need to get a second hand standard back box from somewhere.....

You will not get into Bedford at 102db.

Absolutely no way.

Hey Oli!

Do you know what yours is putting out?

I sounds like I have to rebuild my entire back end to get onto a track frown

I think the noise readings are all a bit random TBH.
I got black flagged last week at Goodwood for tripping 3 meters at an average of 101.6 in a n/a S2 with a standard exhaust, so I think the pipercross I have is loud enough just by itself. The noise meters are quite close to the track there though.
I have been to donny which has a 98db drive-by about 6 times and bedford once on a 86db day with no probs (although the instructor on the bedford day was surprised I was still on).

102db at Bedfordroflroflrofl
My car has measured 92/93 db static on three trips to Bedford (oddly 89db at Snetterton recently!) and although I had no problems on the first two days I was black flagged for drive-by noise on my third visit.
Fortunately it was towards the end of the day or I'd have had a wasted 600 miles round trip.
I also know of someone that was black flagged in a totally factory standard car on the day Bedford first introduced the one strike rule. I suspect he was passing the noise meters in a group and was unlucky. Its unlikely I'll be doing Bedford again.
This topic was much debated earlier in the year when Bedford introduced the 'one strike' rule. Unfortunately MSV have a real problem with the local noise police so they don't have much choice other than to impose such draconian rules. The problem is that you can be OK one day and not the next, dependant on the weather and a host of other variables apparantly.
If you're looking for another novice friendly track then I'd suggest Snetterton. I spent a wet day spinning all over the shop but didn't hit anything.

I was blackflagged for a driveby of 88.7db. End of my day. Bedford is one strike and you are off, no discussion!
