I was told on Sunday that my car was producing 96db of noise. Fortunately the track owner was not there as the limit, like many other circuits in France, is 95db and I would have been black-flagged.

Please can you advise what I need to do to reduce noise?

The car was built by STM in 2003, I understand that the silencer has some sound deadening stuffing in it - where do I buy it and does it deteriorate with age and so will replacement help to reduce noise?

Thanks for your advice.

Christ! I would love my R1 Phoenix to be 96!!! I am lucky to get under 100db, thats with a sealed, piped, cold air induction kit on it. 103.5db is my record for tripping noise meters...

The problem with BEC's is the induction noise, and the fact that everything whizzes round at 12,000 rpm. I had a Fireblade Fury before, and that was more induction noise than exhaust. The only things you can do:

Get a repackable exhaust and pack it well. Bear in mind you can lose power. Ask on the Sylva Chat List's RGB racers to find out what works best.

Make sure there are not lots of holes in your bonnet, letting out the induction noise. It is a trade off between cooling and noise, but my fury never needed any vents on the side which some have.

A mod i did at Zolder which quietened the Phoenix a bit was to turn the exhaust outlet downward so that it fired at the track rather than at the noise meters. But mine pops, bangs and flames on the over-run, which upsets the noise meters somewhat...

Generally I do not think that you will get much lower with a BEC, i personally know none that keep below 95db at full power. If you work out how to do it, let me know! Maybe see you at Abbeville, Croix or Folembray at sometime.

I know a couple of guys who use these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDeta...

Not used them myself but looks to be a quick easy way of reducing exhaust noise, won't help induction noise though.

Thanks for your help guys.

I have found some usefull contacts on the RGB forum. The Demon-Tweeks product looks a bit like Voodoo to me so I think I will be using the noise reduction insert from http://www.jetex.co.uk/index.php.

Anyone got any experience of these?
