Just back for a blat down to Devon and back - the A30 is a lovely piece of road - pity about the weather (!)

Having been driving the 350Z the CV8 has more 'roll' (of course as a bigger car) and although I have the response pack on the CV8 I really would prefer a suspension set-up that really sits down more at high speeds and feels 'planted'

Anyone have any experience / recommendations

Many thanks

Mine is flat and hard.

Wortec AVO's and Monkfish mods.

Monkfish seem to be the #1 peeps for suspension at the moment- started offering Pedders components recently which has seen a hefty price drop in their springs/shocks type kits from the AVO kit. Also offer full alignment and bush mods "road response pack" which gets good reviews. Some people with early AVO kits had some issues as I recall that were dealt with under warranty.

RapidGB also offer some very competitively priced spring/shocker kits and Mark has a local company he is using for full alignment work. I asked if anyone on here had any experience of his kit a while back but got no response. I do know having spoken to him he's fitted quite a few but havent heard any feedback on how much of an improvement they are.

Or you can go it alone, number of options out there. Whiteline is a company that produces kits that get a lot of mentions in the Oz mags. Number of UK based dealers who should be able to source springs/shocks - European distribution center is about 40 miles from me. Loads of dealers in US for Pedders who can supply full range of bushes/shocks/springs/roll bars etc - only problem is going to be getting a set that all works together well for UK roads which is where buying a set from Monkfish/RapidGB makes life easier.

Thanks for the input - AVO's look great - but at £1750.00 - yikes!

Anyone else have experience of any other aftermarket set-ups?

I've driven a CV8 with the Pedders setup, which certainly makes a difference. However, I've heard that if you combine this with the Wortec headers/cats then ground clearance becomes a problem.

My '04 CV8 has the full Wortec Focus pac (with headers), with lowered Pedders springs and dampers, and APs all round. (Monkfish)

The ride is 'on the firm side of firm' now (crap uk roads with ruts and potholes don't help, do notice a little bit of body flex now and again) but those great seats keep it comfortable. There's virtually no roll and it felt rock solid on a trip through Germany on the autobahn recenly.

I've had the odd grouding issue (car park speed bumps, and a 'grin and bear it' comedy moment whilst driving over the tram lines in Amsterdam!) but nothing with the car on the move at speed.

Ok, it's useful to know that people are managing with this setup. I'm having the Focus Pac done this week, and may yet go for the Pedders kit as well.

Having had the 350z I understand what you are after, however, I personally wouldn't change the set up myself.

I recently drove the Monkfish demo car, its fantastic - flat and firm a real treat. However, I have the bushes on mine too, and I am very happy with the ride. I found the demo a bit less compliant on bumpy roads. Dont get me wrong its fantastic set up but I feel the ride quality of standard is great, firm but soft compliant rather than firm and hard.

If I only used the ro to hoon aroud in I would go whatever route that has been done on that demo car. It still wasnt 350z quality though as I found the dampening a bit on the hard side but it might be adjustable or it might have been the fixed system

You cantt go far wrong than trying their demo(monkfish) car out to decide. My CV8 + rr is as close to the zed as I want. Totlly different cars but now its as it should have been from the start.

What is the rr m8?

I have the response pack on mine - dont get me wrong it feels good around B road twisties - however at ***ehem*** rather 'greater' speeds the steering goes much 'lighter'then I would prefer.

Bridgestones on stock wheels at present

No spoiler (might this make a difference?)

Yep, the difference is enormous. Your bootlid won't get scuffed to bits by a heavy lump of plastic which is badly 'bolted' on.

My steering doesn't get noticably lighter at speed (up to 110-115ish), car is 2004 vxr on standard suspension, 245/30/19 Dunlop Sport 9000's running at 38psi.

Maybe I'm not going fast enough? smile

I notice it as I get up to around 100 - feels a lot more skitish than the mrs signum at those sort of speeds

Me! Personally think that the Monaro's handling is pretty rubbish - too heavy I guess, and I just don't have the cash to sort it out. I've had the Road Response Pack from the fish, which does make a nice difference, but at the end of the day I have to keep reminding myself the car is effectively a GT car, not a scratcher.... Vague steering at speed really stops me going above 110 (when I'm abroad) on anything except a perfectly flat road as it is frankly just too scarey!

And yes, I do expcet to get flamed for this...!!

I think you're right, in a straight line mine feels solid up to an indicated 160 but it feels really vague if you try to corner and don't even think about breaking or you'll end up dead. I put it down to the weight because I can do it on the bike without any issue at all. All on private roads of course

I think these cars are very tyre sensitive.
I`m running the Pirelli`s and the cars perfect at high speed and very stable when braking, even when 4 up from 180mph.

Was on a private road at the weekend and when lifting off at 120 the front went light - quite an odd sensation.

Mine had the light steering feel (at speed) when it was standard, agree, it didn't really feel right once over 110 mph (causing clenched buttocks whilst taking long bends at speed...), the pedders suspension and road response pack improves it no end. A quicker steering rack would also help.

I was going to ask about the peddars - so it works with the lining?

Have looked up a fair amount - and some reckon makes it a hard ride

Is the dampening afterwards a the right level for 'family' use?
