How much technical ability is needed for this (TBH, I don't have much)? Is it possible for someone with fairly rudimentary mechanical ability?

Yep, I managed it, and I'm completely useless.

You'll need a hand for some bits (engine install, diff and de dion tube) otherwise its easy.

The hardest bits on mine were the R500 specifics as there was no documentation. All the standard bits were well documented and very easy to follow.

Expect parts to be missing, but they are dealt with quickly. Just take your time and try to enjoy it!
