Just wondering what the common opinion is on what is the best TVR to run on a daily drive basis?

Previously had a 4.2 Cerb which I used as a daily drive for 8 months which other than one or two normal issues was pretty good. Then changed to a Tuscan (also used as a daily drive) and had a fair few problems with (Mainly windows but quite a few other issues too).

I have a 996 Turbo which I will keep of maybe swap for a 360, but thinking of swapping my Jag XJR for an older TVR (£10-15k) just to use as a daily drive. Do approx 300 miles per week and need something reliable - am I daft to look at TVR again for this?

Any thoughts appreciated.

A Chimaera of course!

Very comfortable, lots of room in the boot (it was designed too take 2 sets of golf clubs and luggage) and its not as ugly as a Griff.

Not expensive either - mostly generic and Rover parts.

And no nasty Speed 6 engine to blow up with a £8k rebuild either.

And it sounds better.

Easy answer!

Next! hehe

No Clive- 4.5 Chim for daily drive, 5L Griff for weekend car.
Price & usability. Me I'd have a cheepy daily oilburner and a Griff if I was as rich as Clive.

I think Derek is right in this situation Clive...If I had a 996 Turbo I would be very disapointed in its performance and cost if my "other" car was a Griffwink

Thanks for the replies!!
Common sense of opinion seems to be a Chimera then.

Is there much difference between the 4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0 versions in respect of power, torque, driveability in traffic/distance runs, reliability?

I'm going to buck the trend and say S3. Just because I did around 20k in my S3 as my everyday driver and it never let me down. Fuel economy was great, (well for a TVR), performance was fun and it didn't leak and the ventilation and heating werefine. Boot space was very useable.

T350c...

Ive driven a lot of cars and ive finally found me seats which after 200miles dont give me any back ache what so ever. I love them and i would put them in any car if i could!

Wot AB Shocks says.

and as for the best for reliabilty/driveability/useability/costability etc
I think most would if they were honest pick the 4.0 IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN and it's great.

Ok so someone has got an 8.0L V10 on the garage floor wondering if it will fit but it isn't going to fit the OP's requirements.

I thought the XJKR was an ok car but have to admit I did leave the Jag garage empty handed. Quickly recovered from the mental aberration when I got back in the Chim though hehe

I did over 1k a week in the chim, the sag I take to London on a weekly basis.

Both are fine, Sag doesnt like the speed bumps in London though.

Make it a 500 and the performance will keep you impressed for longer.

I chose a Tuscan over a Griff because of the better roll over and side protection for daily use. Running costs will be higher though.
