I have a 2003 330i sport done 36k, it is kept absolutely pristene, washed every week at least and waxed every month - BUT there is corrosion on the wheels & bubbling under the strip underneath the windows. Menzies BMW in Stirling say they would have fixed the wheels in the first year, but not now, and there is no evedence of physical rust that they can see on the strip under the window. Should I phone BMW GB? Or should I not expect so much from the BMW warranty?

Anybody else had any problems with the BMW warranty?

When you say window strips, does this include the top section of the window?

Nope - mine was rejected.

That is annoying the strips aren't covered, you'd think a £35k car wouldn't be rusting & corroding after 5 years though!

Anyone reckon the wheels might be replaced or reconditioned under warranty? You'd think if they would replace wheels in the first year they would replace it in the 5th year if they're going by what they say in the BMW warranty book?

What after 5 years worth of road salt, kerbing, water ingress, tyre changes, balance weight changes, pot holes etc you would expect the manufacturer to change/repair them FOC? Don't be soft man!

Yes, but this isn't just any corrosion, it's BMW corrosion.
[/M&S Advert Voice]

Be privileged that you are in possession of such esteemed corrosion! BTW... their sh*t doesn't smell either.

My advice... Take a five year old Jap box that cost £10k new to the BMW dealer, point out the inconspicuous absence of corrosion and ask what the extra £25k that you paid was for, exactly.

When I said the car was pristene, I mean it is kept pristene. The wheels aren't kerbed, and the tyres have only been changed twice, and not by the usual half-wits who scratch the hell out of them. Secondly, the car is washed far too often to even taste salt on itself. It's also dried with an airline as well as a chamois to get ALL the water off the car.

Mr Jap car, you are completely right for some reason. Saying that, all other German car makers don't rust as much as BMW's & Mercs.
This is going off the subject anyway.

Should BMW (bearing in mind the car has been cleaned very regularly using BMW cleaning products and has been serviced & looked after by BMW & the wheels haven't been kerbed) replace or recondition my wheels?

I think that you would find that almost any alloy wheel that is 5 years old will have some corrosion on it, no matter how well it's been maintained. You can't expect paint to cope with hot brake dust indefinitely. Likewise, corrosion is inevitable around wheel bolts where the paint is put under strain every time a bolt is tightened.

I do agree that the strip corrosion is poor.

You might be aggrevating the window strip problem by using an airline to clear water from the car.You could be blowing water over any seals into the structure rather than simply allowing water to drain clear by gravity.

Says him with Z4 2 seater penis extention!
I'm a car enthusiast, who looks after his cars - mate, I don't buy cars to look cool or to let my hair blow in the wind.
My previous 9 year old Audi A4 didn't have one spot of corrosion on the wheels, that's why I see the BMW wheels corroding a bit odd & a bit of a dissapointment.

Bought for £12,700 in May 2008 at 35,000 miles.
So how can you be sure it's been well looked after by previous owners? And wasn't the corrosion showing 2/3 months ago?

Have them redone locally. £20 - £30 per wheel and they'll look like new...

No, there have been a few threads on BMW wheels corroding surprisingly fast. I don't think anyone has got anywhere trying to get something done about it.

I just bought a 530D SE 32K miles 53 plate - I bought a warranty from Warranty direct - What a load of crap ...

The car did not start took it BMW and they tell me that water has leaking to the Harness and DDE unit.
The warranty company do not pay the bills because caused by corrosion

DO you know if BMW should cover this - the car was first bought in Nov 2003 (just over 5 years ago)
I heard there is a 8 year corrosion cover -
What action can I take

Regards

Many five year old Avensis that i see have corroded alloys.

My wifes MR2 had the alloys replaced at one year old, so badly were they corroded. Also her Celica ones lasted 18 months and they were corroding too.
