OK, so I get married this Saturday

The TVR is being polished, cleaned and shined Friday ready for us to drive off Sunday morning.

Anyway, Sunday night, me and the new Mrs fly off to the Seychelles for 2 weeks. During this time, my dad has kindly offered to look after the car. So, my question is, to keep the battery charged up does he really need to drive it, or can he just start it up every couple of days and leave it running for 15 minutes or so.

OR

Does he really need to drive it so that everything keeps in running order??

My dad is hoping the second..

Cheers

PS my request to take the bible away with me was met with "THE" look!! I knew the answer...

It will probably be fine left - if your dad starts it and runs it only for 5 mins once a week, it'll probably be even finer... however, they do really really like going for rides... as I am sure your dad does... go on, you know he wants to

Yeah, I know he wants to! He asked me straight away! I think I am goiong to give him the keys and tell him to enjoy it for 2 weeks. Besides, the honemymoon is a present from my mum and dad, so he deserves it!!

Trouble is my mum knows he will want one!

My 2p worth..........

Either use it or don't. 5 mins once a week will do more harm than good. Most engine wear occurs on start up from cold and the battery needs more than 5 mins of tickover to recover from hauling the beast into life!

Let the old man drive it every day!

And congratulations mate

He could always get an 'S'. Half the cost, twice the fun :ducksforcover: and can be purchased for less than your your, er, present (lucky bd)

I agree let the old boy have have 2 weeks of fun.
(I am refering to your father not your 'old boy' which I'm sure will be getting its fair share of fun)

Provided your battery is in decent nick, it should easily keep charge for 2 weeks. My Cerbera was recently left for a month whilst I was away and no problems. The two Chims I had before that would also go more than 2 weeks and start first time.

I'd agree that two weeks should be no problem. Earlier this year left mine for 2.5 weeks (outside) and started on the button without any hassle as if it had been running the day before.

But if your dad wants to take it for a blast then you could let him regardless of whether it needs it or not.

Don't worry about the battery. Worry about the fact your dad has the keys.

I leave my Chimaera for 2 weeks out of every 4 (work offshore). I bought a trickle charger for £17 - Halfords (crocodile clips straight onto battery) and have never had any problems...... Other owners have mentioned problems if left for 2 weeks but I never have so can't comment.

Unless you have a dodgy battery then 2 weeks won't do it any harm at all.

If you are concerned, I think driving it for 30 minutes in open traffic is a much better option than leaving it running on the driveway for 5 minutes....

i got married 2 weeks ago and had to leave my chim for 2 weeks in the garage. got back, and 10 minutes later went out for a spin - started first time, no troubles at all. i did have it on a battery conditioner, as always.

just leave it - it'll be fine!!

good luck with the wedding!

Congrats are due for the big day!! As for the battery, I have left my Chimaera for 2 week stretches over the last 2 Christmases, as well as for 10 days last summer. No problems at all. She roared into life every time. Worry more about your Dad with the keys

Alternatively, for piece of mind, buy an Accumate charger from Leven, plug it into the cig lighter (assuming the electrics are the same as my Griff) and just leave it. Trickle charges the battery and keeps it in tip top condition, particularly through the winter.

All things considered, and as a thank you to my dad, I am going to give him the keys, and tell him to go away and have fun for 2 weeks, like he has allowed me to do

I think he has more than deserved it!!!

I just can't think of the Chim lifeless for 2 weeks, the beast needs to be driven

You know it makes sense

Enjoy the wedding and honeymoon - possibly the only day you'll laugh and smile more than when you picked up your Chim!
