Does anyone know where the steering boss comes from on an 89 wedge? My thoughts so far lead me to a Moutney M series or Escort Mk4. I want to fit a Chimp/Griff type steering wheel but it doesn't fit the boss I currently have...I just need to know what boss I need to adapt my replacement wheel..

Cheers guys

Andy

Superb! I take it the existing boss is a Momo and not an Escort type as first thought?

My guess is that your 1989 Wedge has the Rover SD1 steering column? If so the only boss I could locate on the 'new' market that fitted the SD1 splines was the Mountney MTN123 - 23K03, pictured below right with original TVR boss on left (but even on that the splines were ok, but there was insufficient clearance behind so it would still need adjustment)

The problem with the Mountney boss is it is for 'Traditional' fit steering wheels with 100mm gaps between opposite bolt centres and 50mm gaps between adjacent bolt centres.

The cradle that the wheel bolts to on the TVR boss is held on with 4 bolts so could be rotated through 90 degrees without upsetting the indicator self cancel lugs, but the 6 bolt spacings are different from 'Personal' to 'Modern' such as Momo or Sparco etc so this is not an option.

I got around the problem by drilling 6 new holes in the cradle to suit the Sparco / Momo spacings.
I then fitted a Sparco quick release hub which brought the wheel 50mm closer and makes steering much easier (and has great novelty value)

I still haven't used the car in two and a half years but it was great quality time in the garage!!

I've got the Ford column it has a hexagonal fitting instead of the splines.
