I think Paul Evans will have his work cut out. The American Police enjoy large budgets and the very best in equipment. They also use vastly more human resources than the UK Police service can muster together.

Many concepts that have come to the British Police service had their origins in the US. Some have worked, others have been an unmitigated disaster. I look forwards to the outcome of this trial. I fear it will be just that especially for Mr Evans. I wish him luck as I know he will need lots of it and not only that, he will have the Home office to contend with too and worse still, Blunket as his boss

Look on the bright side...at least it'll provide a few more jobs in the ever-expanding government machine. What other bargains could you get for several hundred thousand of the taxpayers pounds? bargain - NOT

I was talking to someone at work about this yesterday.
Mr Paul Evans will have a very big shock indeed when he sees what he has to play with.

A recent survey of three similar towns in relation to population being one in the UK (Reading), one in France (Lille) and another in the States (Can't remember where)

Reading = 13 patrol Police officers on duty.
Lille = 300 patrol officers on duty.
States town = 550 patrol officers on duty.

How is Mr Paul Evans going to reduce crime by such drastic percentages with .2% (roughly) of the resources he enjoyed in the States

Well - could make it 14 officers in Reading if he takes the one off Vastern Road and puts him on the beat

To be honest I can't believe that Reading is the size of Lille!!

Although 13 officers still makes me worry...
